Just set up my Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3 controller to fly my Mini 4 Pro and carried out a couple of test flights.  All appears OK apart from this on-screen message:

“not using bound device”

Any ideas…

Yes you have to bind the mini 4 to the goggles. I think they allow you 5 flights unbound and then you will not be allowed to take off anymore with the goggles and motion controller.

Hi there. Thank you for reaching out. The goggles can be regarded as a remote controller. If the aircraft is used with an unbound device, the flight times are also limited to five. (The aircraft cannot take off when the limit of flight times is reached.) If the aircraft is bound to a standard remote controller, the goggles will prompt the user to change the bound device. Please connect the goggles to the mobile phone, and change the bound device, bind a new device or unbind the bound device in DJI Fly.

To unbind the remote controller and bind the DJI Goggles, follow the steps below:
1. Go to the DJI Fly homepage and tap “Profile”.
2. Tap “Device Management”.
3. Select the connected aircraft.
4. Tap “Value-added Service” -> “Unbind Device” to unbind the aircraft and remote controller.

5. To bind the aircraft to the DJI Goggles, go to “Device Management” -> “Value-added Service” and tap “Bind New Device”.
6. Confirm the account number and the serial numbers of the aircraft and DJI Goggles, then tap “OK”.
7. When a prompt stating “Binding successful” is displayed, this indicates that the aircraft is successfully bound to the DJI Goggles.

Thanks for that.  I thought I had done that already but I will go through the procedure again taking more care.  I have to say flying the mini 4 pro with the goggles 3 is a game changer!

Thanks for info.  I have managed to solve the issue but your detailed information has helped me to understand the procedure better. Do I have to go through this procedure and connect to a mobile phone every time I change back to the standard controller?

Yes, blusnapper. Every time you switch controllers, you need to go through this procedure. Should you have other inquiries, feel free to contact us. Have a nice day ahead!

Hi. Can I also ask an additional question ? Do I have to have an internet connection available to do this procedure ? Very often I want to fly my drone in remote locations where there is no internet and I would like to be able to use both the traditional RC and the googles in FPV interchangeably. Have you ever thought about this use case? Thanks.

Hi there, thank you for reaching out. May I confirm the remote controller you're referring to as "traditional RC" for me to check the compatibility and advise you accordingly?

Looking forward to your response. Thank you for your patience and support!

Sure, even though my question is not about compatibility, I know they are compatible since I tried them and they work.
I have the Mini 4 PRO with RC2 controller, Goggles 2 and RC Motion 2.

Hello, thank you for your response and the information provided. Just to clarify, an internet connection is only necessary when activating your remote controller with your DJI account. However, it's important to note that you can still link your remote controller and goggles with your drone even without an internet connection.

Hope this clarifies your inquiry. Thank you for your support!

I’ll be honest, I came on here trying to search the same issue, and after reading the replies I still have no clue how this works. My assumption as a new product owner was that by purchasing the motion controller and Goggles 3, is that I could easily toggle between how I’d like to fly my drone.

If I’m understanding correctly the answer given sounds like you didn’t design for this scenario. Having to unbind and bind a new device every time I need to switch is kind of annoying. Is there not a way to have this operate a bit more like Bluetooth?

For clarity, is binding now compulsory even if the owner DOES NOT have care refresh ?

Yup.

Moronic but true.  Binding is an evil that is required whenever you switch controllers on a drone.  For Googles 3, that means I need to keep a phone (with appropiate cable and fly app) nearby when switching controllers.

It looks like I found the solution. At least it works with my Mini 3 Pro, RC Pro and Goggles Integra Motion Combo. I'm on the latest FW on everything. Aircraft remembers all bound controllers - no need to rebind it every time. Switch on aircraft with your regular bound controller and goggles (RC2 is off). RC will show the message like 'goggles in use - not compatible with RC, use only RC2'. Then switch off your regular controller and switch on RC2. Aircraft will reconnect automatically, but without the message 'not using bound device'. Hope it will help!
