Still some way from completion, but the major work is now well advanced, following the near-breach of the dam, which hit the world news almost five years ago.
A major disaster was narrowly averted by a frenzied response from all the emergency services and airforce heavy helicopters.

Very impressive 360 Mr. B.     Looks like the work has come a long way.  I feel sorry for the people in the houses just below the spillway.

Thanks. Yeah, I wouldn't want to live there. They're the houses that would have been the first to be swept away, had the dam actually burst. Goodness knows how the developers got planning permission to build them there.

Surprising, isn't it, just how much work has had to be done to restore stability.

That's one of those "don't ask how or we'll have to lie to you".

I'm getting better on the drums as I'm now able to drum along for the entire song of Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.  I need to work on some fills but feeling much better at my drumming.

I cant believe the spill way still has those temporary bags on it,   and are those new houses since the near miss of a disaster?

The piling on the dam side of the earth bank has taken all the pressure off it, so I guess there's no rush to do the cosmetic tidy-up yet. Those houses were built before the near-collapse. I suspect they would have suffered badly, had the dam given way.

Those houses looked newer than that,  I bet the owner regret buying.,

I did three, and selected that one because the in-flight stitching was the best.
But that version was actually done manually from the RAW files.
When I scrutinised it, I can still see a couple of imperfections, but the worst one (directly downwards) has been largely ironed out.

I had missed that little wiggle,  you do really have to search for it.

I'd hope that the casual viewer wouldn't be as picky as us
A couple and their grandson came to the skate park whilst I was flying, so I got another couple of interested people engaged in conversation.

Hi Seb. Yes it was hastily drained back in 2019 to avoid the dam breach. And the pumps are still maintaining a low level until the repairs are complete.

Tht's an interesting build.

It's been a 5-year project, Charles.
Long before you became involved in the Forum, the dam came close to breaching, due to age.
It was a major incident in the village, with many people evacuated for weeks until the danger was averted.
The reservoir was emptied into the nearby river as a precaution.
Work should finally be complete this year, and it's expected that the reservoir might take another six months after that to slowly refill.
I've posted various observations of it during that period.

I'll do an update in the summer. But it looks to be progressing well. Here's a report you may find interesting:

Good luck. Cheers to a new water supply.

The dam actually only contains a reservoir feeding the canal system, not the domestic water supply.
So as you can imagine, it's quite old.

Some of our reservoirs aren't for drinking either.
