Hi,

I'm currently using an Insta360 X4 with a DJI Mic 2 for bking videos.
Switch from an Insta360 X3 to the new Insta360 X4. All sound features was working fine with the X3, but with the X4, same settings (bluetooth connected, -6dB gain in the X4 for external mic), the sound is realy bad...
Clipping / scratching when I'm talking, and sound seems really "flat", worst than the X3.
Doesn't hear anymore shiftings gears, people speaking around me are hard to ear... Wind, on the other hand, is less earable wich is a good point... but all the others are really really bad for me

It's looks like the sound attenuation is turn ON, but for all settings it's on OFF... or it's another problem, don't really know but hope a solution can be found !

Help !

edit : not my video, but this is exactly the same problem -->

That's actually my video. Here's what I ended up doing:
I tested connecting via Bluetooth, buying just a DJI Mic 2 transmitter, and connecting to my X4. I thought this would be a great simple approach for motovlogging. But, after many tests, the quality just wasn't there.

I posted and asked questions all over, including both DJI and Insta360 forums, but no one seemed to have any luck with this approach at speeds on a motorcycle.

What I learned was that the bluetooth connection is fine for simple audio needs, but just doesn't cut it when motovlogging at speed. And, I learned that, when connected via Bluetooth, you cannot use the noise-cancelling feature of the DJI Mic 2 transmitter.

I tried the transmitter in the helmet. I tried connecting my existing lav mic to it that is already in my helmet. And I even tried outside the helmet in various positions.

In the end, I ended buying the DJI Mic 2 1RX 1TX set and a charger. I also purchased the Insta360 mic adapter, and the XMount 360 that allows for easy mounting of the receiver to the X4.

I just got the equipment today, so haven't tested on the bike yet. But other testing shows that this will work great. I can now do 32-it audio if I want. I can use noise cancelling if I want. I can control gain on both the transmitters, and on the receiver as it's going in to the X4. And now that it's connected via the mic adapter, I can see my audio readout lines right on the X4 display.

More money than I planned on spending, but this will do the trick.

After all this, and converting away from GoPro, I wonder if going with the DJI Mic 2 and the DJI Osmo Action 4 would have been a better and easier approach!

I'm using my X4 and DJI Mic 2 when bike riding. And on the bike, the eaisier is the setup, the better is.
So, bluetooth seems to be the perfect thing !

But, problems, it works not fine. I've notice this problems :
1 - bad sound, saturating, crackles etc... (as the video)
2 - blank sound periods, where no sound is recorded (which made a massive desync !)
3 - a 500ms desync all the time

I've got the X3, and just the 500ms desync problem is here... Now, the X4 comes with 2 others, and a firmware update could solve this I guess (I'm in touch with Insa360 support for all this problems).

Without theses problems, X4 will be the perfect action cam for me.

I've got the DJI Mic 2 in version 1RX / 2TX and the X4 mic adaptator, it works fine, with an incredible sound. But the setup for biking is not optimal for me, bluetooth have to deal with it !

Does the Bluetooth sound issue still persist, now that both firmwares (insta360 X4 and DJI Mic2) have been updated.

I want to make sure, that it works as expected before I buy a Mic2 for my X4. I want to avoid attaching a mic receiver to the X4, because of the additional weight, which is a downside when using a fully extended selfie stick.

Hi,
For me, this works fine with the latest firmwares.
Gain for external mic set to -12dB in the X4.
Seems to be good as it was with the X3.

edit : just the very little desync (less than 500ms) with audio & video (not always)

Thanks!

Mmh ...desync? ... maybe I should better choose the Rode Wireless Pro, because then I can use Timecode to sync video and audio ... and I can record the engine in Stereo ;-)

PS: OTOH, a single DJI Mic2 is more ideal for quick setups. Hard decision.

Speed of the motorcycle is irrelevent. The crackling is present even when you were stationary.

The audio quality didn't change with increasing speed.

Try connecting to a totally different device using BT from the Mic 2. See if it still crackles. I strongly suggest the problem is with the X4 and not the Mic 2.

BT audio codec is pretty junk regardless of what the device is. It's low-bandwidth. Period. The crackling/audio delay is DIRECTLY the result of it being transmitted over BT. It's slow processing, but for most audio applications this delay isn't noticed. The problem is the BT audio is being processed on-camera, and recorded directly into the video. If the camera does not compensate for processing delays of audio and video, and does not have in-built buffers to sync them, then the delay due to BT audio processing will be noticable.

I strongly recommend recording the audio seperately in as high quality as possible to the Mic 2, and syncing in post. This will result in the best audio quality, and no messing around.

Same problem also with the new DJI Mic Mini. Audio drops out in between, bad audio quality. Not usable at all for motorcycle ride videos. I also tried to connect my rider communication set via Bluetooth, a Sena 50, same problems. It connects but audio is "cracking" and bad. I think this is a Insta360 problem.
