Caught the Rail engineers juat as they were leaving,  so no way to know what they were trying to repair,  so sorry to @Montfrooij no train jacking to capture this morning.

Very nice shot DA.    The  repair crew must have been on site really early to have already completed the job.

At the moment we only have rain on Saturday, but the rest of the week is still pretty cool and miserable.  Certainly not BBQ weather.

That would make a lot more sense then.  The local railroads here do not like to do maintenance or repair work at night unless it is an emergency due to doubling the cost of labor for overnight work.

Took a bit of digging but here's the original image.
We had a group of French visitors on a twinning visit. Took them to York for the day.
Visited the Minster, Clifford's Tower and the Rail Museum (Two of them worked for SNCF)
This was back in 2004, a couple of years before we emigrated.

No herrings in Kendal,   actually the whole town was a let down compared to what I recall of it.    And no where sold wax jackets that we could find.

It was quite high up so pigeons I bet, but couldn’t they have screwed into the mortar and not the stone?

The stone is a more durable fixing. Mortar could crumble before the stone will.
