So since i bought my Ps3, I haven't had much time to use it as it's away with DJI. But, that doesn't stop me learning as much as possible about my new found love!

So, GPS / Bluetooth Tracking.

Iv been looking at several different options for this. However, things like TILE and other Bluetooth tracking things, rely on cloud based downloads of their software in order to find you lost item. The problem for me is that i live in the middle of no where! About 20 miles away from a city. It's hard enough to get a signal on my mobile, let alone getting Bluetooth to work lol
Yes ialready heard of the tracking option witin the Phantom app, but the reviews aren't that great.


So i need something that STRICTLY uses GPS. And of course it must fit onto / into the Ps3 / without voiding any warranty.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I just had a look at that Marco Polo. It does seem like a good but... its expensive... like; $219.95–$360.95!! Lol

Think we need to find a cheaper solution.

Very cheap off eBay and uses GPS and cell phone to track position.

Trakimo won't work unless the device on the Phantom has a good cellular signal.Since you said you are in the middle of nowhere, you will need a totally independent tracking device such as Marco Polo.

I am still looking into this. There is a LOT of options.

I will update as of when i find something decent and doesnt cost a fortune.

Aside from that, keep the ideas coming folks.

trackimo has been good for me but not great.  I have taken multiple trips to south america this year and trackimo did not work on any of these trips until i emailed them.  ymmv.

oh yeah, and out of the country the accuracy has pretty much been within a quarter of a mile much of the time.  ymmv.

Any sort of tracking device will use GPS to determine the position of the device, but then it has to communicate that information back to you so you can locate it. This is usually via a cell phone app. Bluetooth is a short range technology and is only good for close work, this is why most devices report their position back to you using cell phone technology. You cannot do anything with a strictly GPS device as you asked because GPS has no ability to report the position, it is simply a system that reads satellite information to obtain its position, it cannot transmit.

So unless you have a cell phone signal in your area, you are pretty well limited to using the Marco Polo system that has its own transceiver built in.

Because it's expensive. I'm looking for a more cheaper route.

I will just say this... You get what you pay for.
And if you are going to put a cheap tracking device on a $1,000+/- device then you might just want to go with nothing.

Just my opinion.

Yep i agree.

The Phantom 3 Standard that i bought was after a few months of saving.

I don't have a lot of cash, simple as that really. So im looking for something that will work, and not cost the earth.

Although saying that, there has been some good examples / suggestions so far.

I emailed Marco Polo and they quoted me $275. (£176). Which is well out of my budget as yet. And im wondering if they'll be a EU customs charge too :/

Marco Polo definitely seems like the better option for where i live though as it doesnt rely on gprs / mobile signals.

Il have to see what i can do.
