It appears that we are getting closer to a ban on DJI drones in the U.S. What does that mean for us DJI drone owners?

It’s important to understand what this “ban” truly means. If passed as currently written, the current law would not ban current DJI products. It would not ground or disable any DJI product that is already available in the US Market. What the law would do is prevent DJI (and other Chinese manufacturers) from being able to attain an FCC license going forward for future products. This means DJI would be limited from introducing any new drone models to the market, however they can continue selling the models already in action.

It's not a ban on DJI drones,   it's a ban on DJI Products that have an FCC number.    So your pocket 2 would also be covered if they apply the ban retrospectively.

II guess I'll have to pull out the old 3DR. I still own 2 or 3D Robotics drones though they are not technically legal to fly now.

My fleet of DJI; Mavic 2 Pro, Avata, and Mini 4 pro might be worth something next year. Maybe should pick up a Mavic 3 Pro...

Where is the evidence that is the question… whilst there might be merit in aspects of the commentary it just smells of underlying interests that are not directly correlated to the safety of the USA, the latter appears to be the scare mongering tactic in use to obtain a desired outcome.  Perhaps Elise should audit her own smart device collection as I suspect little is 100% US made will she be moving on those as well?

It is not lost on the UK or US Govt  that the effect that DJI drones have on fighting in Ukraine. The Ukrainian army are using them very effectively.
At first the drones were limited due to some loser flying at aircraft coming in to land.
But the Russian/Ukraine war has shown DJI drones are capable of weaponization. Dont forget recent UK problems with violent rioters. the Govt do not want drones to be used by rioters.

But the drones require software and firmware updates right? Would that be counted like will they still be allowed to update them or does it have to be the product as it was approved when they got the license
