Feature request: Flash red on the front screen for a few seconds to indicate recording.

Love the camera but there's one feature I'd love to see added through a firmware update. DJI Action 4 is a versatile camera that can be used in many different ways and lighting conditions. This also presents a few challenges, it is difficult to see if the camera has started to record if the camera is far away or the record light is not visible because of sunlight.

There is a tiny little flashing red light, but it is easily missed.

That is my point exactly… the indicator is too small

Maybe like Sony go all around the screen in a red box for recording but DJI will not allow  fpor the reasons of screen burn

Don’t think burn in would be an issue. It will only blink for a few seconds

If the sun blots out the red timing light and the flashing red dot then there's the audio sound.

Personally, I turn them all off because I don’t want other people to see it going off in public. The audio sound is a dead giveaway.Especially when it's set on high.  I turn that off as well because others are instantly attracted by it! Might as well put a cuckoo on the camera to attract attention.

The Ace Pro has a red light, but it's way more prominent than the Action. Others become very aware of it.

TBH, I find the Sony red ring a little bit annoying and distracting. I think it looks a bit naff.

If DJI implement another indication of recording then please have the option to switch it off as well! The Sony cameras give us no choice.

Just out of curiosity, what "challenges" does it exactly present?

I can think of many reasons why the provided solution is not sufficient.

For instance, doing any kind of filming while doing sports or riding bikes, motorcycles, or driving cars (remember this is an action camera)... You might not be able to use the app on the phone for legal or practical reasons. In situations like riding a motorcycle, it is almost impossible to hear the beep even at the loudest setting. Having to wear riding gloves also makes it really hard to know if the button is pressed properly or not. With the recording indicator light being so small, it is very difficult to see if you are recording by checking yourself in the mirror.

More or less we'll not get what you wished for. DJI gave all the thoughts on  Visual, Hearing and verbal commands.  good luck in getting a different red bullet. and oh  Lancraig, Bring an Air conditioner its a heatwave here  good luck filming

There are plenty of people using it to record motorcycle rides or sports. The last thing you should be doing while riding a motorcycle is to keep checking of your light is on. It's like testing while driving.

Also...

It is clear as day that you don’t understand the user case.

If you don’t know the user case please abstain from commenting since it does not concern you and you clearly you don’t understand the need. You are not in that user group. It seems oddly strange to me to give pushback on a feature that you clearly don’t understand. Thanks “helping” out buddy

Maybe the remote control on your wrist might help? It flashes red and shows the video time while recording.

These gloves are really bulky but I will give the remote a try for now I think. Thanks!

The remote is pretty crude, but the button is quite big and you might be able to strap it maybe on the front somewhere.. You can see the timing in daylight as well.

As the options are really not going to help with gloves but like said voice command may if no words are spoken  hope you find a resolution with the camera good luck
