I have been experimenting with out success with using a 9M Antenna RP-SMA Extension Cable for Wi-Fi Wi Fi Router
to extend the distance between 2.4 GHz transceiver and the antenna to increase the height of the antenna in order to extend the range of vehicle/ground station.  Can this be accomplished in this way, or is there a better alteration to achieve this goal?

Any suggestion is appreciated.

I think you might need to change frequency receiver and radio to a higher one

Do you mean you want to change the antenna of the 2.4G data link?

One big problem of using coax at 2.4GHz is that unless you are using a good quality cable the losses incurred between the transceiver and the antenna can be so great that you effectively attenuate both the transmitted and received signals.

It is far more effective to mount the transceiver itself onto a pole and use either the BT adaptor, if using an iPad, or a long USB cable if using a PC.

I occaissionally use a 10ft pole, first four sections of a cheap fibre glass Roach fishing pole,  to mount the transceiver to and maintain connection with either the BT adaptor or a good quality 5 metre USB cable.
