As the title says, I took another swim on Saturday, not 5 or 6 this time, just once

Got to keep that paddle from dipping into the eddy flow Bashy.  Only swimming once is still a huge improvement.  Keep up the great work.

I love it, if I could afford the £50 in fuel I would go more often than just once a week,  I just wish I had started kayaking again much sooner, especially around 10 years ago or sooner as I lived much closer to a white water centre up in Northampton, I was only about 40 mins away

I went out kayaking on the Everglades yesterday and it’s not easy! Let alone trying to video it. I was knocked clean off my boat twice by mangroves getting flicked. Straight in ….. camera and all.

A third time, I just leaned slightly to avoid taking one to my face and I tipped the kayak over.

Really difficult when there’s a strong tide coming in and you’re trying to keep tha kayak straight and on an even keel. Let alone getting back in the kayak when you can’t stand up.

Great fun, but not as easy as it looks in your video! Especially when you're 70 ......

I had the impression you were much handier for it than that.
That's a lot of fuel, for sure.

Ouch, tell me you've got some footage, i don't care how crap, the swims will make up for that

Thing is, once you've taken a swim, it knocks a lot of energy out of you so I bet after the 3rd time you were really pooped.

I have been kayaking since I was a kid albeit not white water and i stopped for about 30yrs but i did learn to empty a lot of water out and get back in it when in deep water, that takes a lot of balance and what little energy you have left is depleted quickly.

This is from last year, it was one of my 1st videos, emptying was a little easier as it had a sealed bulkhead.

Lets see and hear your screams as you go over

That's a lot of fuel, for sure.

Its only about 1:20hr on average away and most of it is A11 (dual) and M11, I think about 75 miles each way, my old V70 2.4, 5-cylinder diesel (185bhp) drinks fuel like the stuff is going extinct (oh wait, it is lol) I am not going to tell you I speed but should i tell you that my average mph is standing at 43 and that i never stick to 70 should giving you an inkling, full disclosure, its probably at best £40 but I do put in £50 just in case and by the time i get home, the needle is around the point when i put the fuel in. Plus there's Maccy D's too but £26 for the session(s). I would be cheaper to my to Kensington in London and and commute from there

My diesel SUV does over 60mpg cruising at 70 on the Mway. No roofbox though.

Damn thats good lol, with mine there's a lower BHP model about 160 odd which is a lot better than mine on fuel, but i think even in its hay day mine would have been lucky to see over 42. The upside to this is that its far from any slouch and can hold its own against most that I have played with, don't get me wrong, i choose most of my battles wisely and I have to draw the line at X mph (higher than you would think ;) ) due to the kayak on the roof, the roof rack advises to stay under 70 ha ha ha, ahem lol, so it's my own fault as to why its a guzzler. A couple of stats, my avg mph is currently sitting at 42, I reset it probably about 10k ago and the best ever mpg was 40 and that was driving at 60 over a 40-mile dual carriageway journey, that was boring but i wanted to see when it could do.

Before getting back into kayaking my avg annual miles were under easily 5k, I am quite sure thats no longer the case :/ had I known then, I would have chosen a better mpg vehicle, as it stands I am just going to run it into the ground, its not far off now lol

Many of the centres let you keep ya boat there for a small fee, makes great sense if it's the only place you paddle so bus is a great cost saving

You are right. Getting back into the kayak with no ability to stand absolutely knocked me for six, let alone being bashed by the mangroves. Not only getting back in, but actually swimming back to the boat was difficult because on those inlets have an incredibly strong current when the tide is on the move.

I had the camera around my neck in a cage, but couldn’t just leave it running because it was overheating if I did. The temperature here is scalding hot so I had to wear a T shirt to stop burning the skin off my back.

What worried me more was what might have been IN the water…..

Tell me you wore a PFD though. It's those that make swimming harder mind lol bt worth it.
You have scary stuff in your waters, sod that lol

Perhaps a leash, you to boat, and one for the paddle to the boat and if youre on your own I would recommend at least your phone if there's a signal and or an EPIRB and let someone know your route and expected time back.
