I reecently won an Avata 2 with Goggles 3, RC 3 and FPV controller 3. Here in Australia the rules around FPV drone usage outdoors is ridiculoulsy draconian (must have line of site or a trained spotter and be a memeber of a club at a club field etc..). Can the Avata 2 be used like a traditional drone, using an iphone and the controller, without the goggles?

Yes, but not really (how's that for a confusing answer?)...

You can add a phone holder to the RC2 and connect the phone via USB (or wifi) to the DJI fly app. You have to keep the goggles around your neck or on your forehead as the signal of the RC2 goes thru the goggles.

The setup is not ideal and you want to avoid flying acro in this setup.

I have seen great lag sometimes - even with USB cable!
And you can't fly FPV with 2 sec lag!
