Hi,

My understanding with the L2 was that increasing the number of returns recorded would decrease the scan rate. However, when setting up a mission in Pilot 2, no matter what number of returns is set, whether single- or penta-, the scan rate stays at 240kHz. Does the effective scan rate change with changing number of returns?

Thanks

You probably read the L1 manual but not the L2 manual.

L1 act as you described.

L2 is locked at 240kHz. Only the maximum return point recorded change.
240k in single mode
1200k in multi

As per the L2 manual

Right, thanks. So the only reason to lower the number of returns from 5 is data volume?

This is one way of looking at it.

The choice of the number of returns should be made according to the surface to be observed.
Typically if you scan an asphalt parking lot, single return is recommended.
If you scan an extremely dense forest with vegetation on the ground and you want to obtain a DTM, it is better to put the maximum number of returns.

The volume of data will follow accordingly.
