Had the pleasure of shooting around California on a recent trip.   Was great to meet up with PureSQNut and Skyrider!

Here is the compile of my trip.   Was shot in the High Sierra, San Francisco (with PureSQNut), Santa Cruz (with Skyrider) Carmel and Cannery Row in Monterey.

Combination of P3 and Inspire 1.

Enjoy!

Jim,

Did you have to get permission to fly over the highways, bridges and built up areas, if so did you have to provide any Pilot qualifications to get the permission as I am curious to know what they may have accepted as Pilot qualifications etc.   We couldn't do that in the UK if we didn't have full control of the operational area and permission to fly over people and vehicles etc. and certainly wouldnt get permission to fly at night without submitting full detailed propsals of flight, max altitude, duration, safety measures etc.

A guy who I believe may be from  the USA recently flew an Inspire in London City with pedestrians and vehicles within probably 10 feet of take-off , totally breaking UK Civil Aviation Laws.

Nice... One shot in there had me say "woooh". That one second shot of pulling back from the wind will. Man that was close!!

You should retitle it California Part I. You need to come back and the do the Sierra's, Southern California, there is just so much about that state. Part II, Part III, etc.

Hey GB,

Yeah, I saw the video of that guy, how illegal and stupid was that?!!!!

Yes, all guidelines were followed, respected all no-fly zones.

Your video was so great and mind boggling you got GB thinking you were flying over bridges and highway. You might have been, but the proof is definitely not in your video.

I noticed a seagull fly through at cannery row.  Did the seagulls try and interfere with the UAV?  We we filming for the Queen Mary and the seagulls kept trying to attack our Inspire.

yeah, sometimes they try to threaten the Inspire but I've found that they keep their distance in the end.  No close calls as I wouldn't want to harm any wildlife.

I am hoping right now in the process of getting a 2million dollar liability coverage to be allowed to fly on top of the permit fees lol... got to love california but it is a state park so you need permission from California Film Association. Time is ticking... hope it works

Real nice video Jim. You look like an eagle flying over the tops of those tall pines or whatever they were.
I lived in Monterey for a year while attending DLI and it is heaven on earth as far as weather and sites.

There have been a couple of comments on my sister post in the P3 forum about regulations and no-fly zones.

Anyone want to start a conversation about what is and what is not against the rules in California regarding this footage?

From my perspective - no flying over "populated areas."   I guess this is a grey area to some people.   We didn't fly over congested streets, were always 390ft up, respected no fly zones and the rest of it.

Seems like at least we should be able to come to a consensus about the rules especially since we're all on the same side of the argument.
