Thanks Roger.  I don't think we ever get there.   I see footage on the forum that takes my breath away and there is always something to strive for!      But I will happily accept your compliment.

Hey Craig,  basically do what you have to do for the shoot, go to ASA 1600 or 3200.   If possible, keep to a 180 degree shutter.   Shoot in LOG so you have the most data possible for post.

Initially your footage will be grainy so you'll need to deal with it in post by crushing the blacks a bit and using noise reduction.    An excellent and affordable choice for noise reduction is Neat Video -  https://www.neatvideo.com/index.html?gg5

Jim ,Loved the video but you are flying over people etc.. I had a senior member of the FAA at my winery yesterday .They are working on strict new laws to stop some of the stuff you did .They are very serious .As well known as you are on this board you should not be posting video like you have .Even though it is amazing and well done .You could have had a fly away at anytime and were way to close to people and endangering life  .That is what they are getting at . He said they are watching all the boards .Just saying .

If they want to legislate drones out of existence, which would basically be "DO NOT FLY WITHIN 10KM OF ANY PERSON OR BUILDING" that is certainly their prerogative and I will comply when they do.   

But that's the only way to prevent a flyaway from possibly reaching someone before the battery runs out.

Yes we did ,but you continue to post video which should not have been taken .If you as a senior member of this board advocate a video like you took .We have a problem and our hobby will be shut down .As I said before ,I do not want a fight but we can not do what you guys did .I want to keep flying .

Very true Jim and that is what makes great photos and videos. We strive for perfection and it rarely comes but, during that process we produce some amazing photos/videos. Before my first Phantom I was really into HDR Photos. It was fascinating what one could produce. Then the Phantom came along and I was hooked. I enjoy going to a new area and getting in the air and explore the countryside. Please keep doing your Tutorials so I can come somewhat up to speed in FCP.

No problem.  You might also want to get some test footage in similar lighting conditions.  Sometimes on the monitor you don't think you're getting anything useful but may be surprised how much you can rescue in post.  This would allow you to shoot with confidence.

In all due respect. You can have a fly away flying in the middle of farm country and even at a battery life of 20 minutes at average speed that is a HUGE span of available territory that a drone can end up into. If the term "flyaway potential" is to regulate the demographic and opportunity for a drone to make contact with people then I guess they should restrict us to fly in from the back of a yacht in the middle of the pacific ocean or perhaps the middle of Death Valley?

Regardless of where you fly, there IS and always WILL be Human factor in areas withing range of today's drones.

Now if he was hovering over the top of a large group of people like this...  



Then I would be on here screaming foul play.

Exactly my point!   

I personally see a difference between "flying over a crowd" and "flying where their potentially could be people around somewhere."

I would never fly anywhere near an organized gathering, but if I'm near regular areas that are not in a no fly zone, I just try to keep 50 feet or more away from them or have them involved in the shoot.

Hi Dave and thanks for your comment.

Yeah, still use the Neumann LUTS though sometimes just grade from scratch.  Don't remember if I used them on this series or not.  

I typically shoot at 25FPS and try to keep my shutter speed around 1/50, though not always possible.

The main thing is shooting in D-Log and reducing the contrast and saturation to -2 or -3.  I used to reduce sharpness to -1 but haven't done that for quite a while.

Other than that it's all about getting the shots the way you like and grade grade grade!  ;-)

Thanks so much Phil, much appreciated!   I'm blown away by the amazing power we now have access to with this new breed of drones.  Inconceivable even a few years ago!
