I've been monitoring the sunsets. More often than not, all I see is cloud.

I had an interesting late evening yesterday.  I took the ATV and headed to the back of the property to add food to the deer feeder.  A wild hog had broken down a part of my barbed wire exterior fence and was tangled up in it.  I had to put him down.  I took him to a local butcher shop and they are prepping him for me.  Bad luck for the hog but good luck and some good meals for me.  All it cost me was 2 hours of mending fence this morning.  I hate dealing with barbed wire but it is a necessary evil to keep wild animals out.  The deer that visit just jump right over the top of it and I assume the 3 wild turkeys I've seen back there just fly over it.

They do look pretty well fed.  Lots of bacon and ham on those two.

In that part of the country you also see horses and donkeys wandering the roads like that too.

That means drivers have to really be alert when on the road in that area.  Here, animal owners can be held responsible if their horse or cattle wander into the road and cause an auto accident.  That's why it is important for animal owners to continuously check their fence lines for any issues that need to be fixed.  An example is about 6 months ago a horse got out and was on the road at night.  As a motorcycle came around the curve the motorcycle light must have blinded the horse so he bolted at the last minute right  into the path of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle hit the horse broadside and it threw him off and through a barbed wire fence.  The barbed wire fence decapitated the rider.  So both rider and horse died at the scene.  The family of the motorcycle rider sued the owner of the horse and was awarded $5.7M

Im not sure how they handle that here.   the horses are classed as wild although they sort of do have owners.  Usually from what Ive seen though it's the horse that gets hurt and the car drives off.

No doubt the car would be able to drive off unless the horse came through the wind screen or somehow disable the motor during the crash.  I'm guessing the airbags would deploy for sure.

I saw a brand new Yaris last week hit a Renault espace that pulled out in front of it at a junction and the Yaris was speeding.   The Renault drove away even though its air bags etc had all deployed,   but the Yaris couldnt be driven and no air bags deployed.    A most curious state.

Might be some of those thousands and thousands of air bags that keep getting recalled.

They just added another 2.7 million to the recall on August 13, 2024.  .

"A total of 67 million airbags have been recalled. As of April, 2024, NHTSA reports that 88 percent have been repaired/replaced, still leaving many millions of at-risk airbags on the road. "

But they are all older models being added,   nothing built recently unless im missing it.   still not good is it.

Not good when you are counting on that safety feature to work when or if ever needed.  Those air bags add quite a bit to the retail price so they should absolutely work.

This little old lady knows how to make an air bag work.

I've only had one go off on me and the hot particles got inside my shirt and left a few burn marks but at least saved me serious injuries.

I live almost on a cross roads where people just dont stop and we get two or three serious crashes there each year,    two in the last 3 weeks infact.   One guy last year had such a red face after the airbag hit him that it looked like he had really bad sunburn.
