Hello,

So I have been shopping the FB market place for a local deal on a used mini 3 or 4 pro that at least operates to subject my learning curve upon, but see some fishy listings very low prices listed.
My question is if one of these are stolen and reported so to DJI will I be able to tell. I do not want hot merchandise, or to be robbed showing up with the money, but I need to know if I can tell if its stolen?

Thanks

DJI encourage users to bind the quad to the controller and the account, so connecting to it via the app will reveal if the quad is bound, in which case avoid it unless it can be unbound ( the original owner can do this in a few minutes), DJI can also block quads from take off if the original owner has reported it as a flyaway, but if its stolen im not sure if an owner can report it as stolen with a view to locking it down, i may be wrong on that point.

What on earth are you planning to do that requires a 'crash test drone'?

You'll need to practice to get smooth flight and video etc, but these things almost fly themselves!

Read the manualn (to understand limitations such as flight speed vs wind vs battery life etc), read up on local regulations, watch a few YouTube tutorials and take it easy flying in a wide open space the first couple of times and there should be no reason to have to crash and destroy a drone to learn how to fly!

Thanks, I knew I would draw a response something like that, and I can appreciate it thank you. I am reading, video viewing, believe me.

I have tried drones years before and on less than adequate equipment and not with the fly self of today's.
I have two left thumbs, I worry about it beating me to the point of abandon, or damage during the return period, all the worst scenarios. But the desire is great.

I abandoned the open box because of the lack of CJI protection offered because the seller could not tell me if the open box item would have use or had been registered or anything else to void the chance.

I can buy new but am going to exhaust this last effort to have as little as possible invested.

So I fumble around in FB Market place and see the maze of deals and traps and cons and keep watching it for a deal local to me where I can see it operate before money is passed.

I can get my question answered it would help. Is there an obvious way to tell if a CJI drone is a stolen unit? Is there a place with CJI to report said. I do not want that kind of deal.

Thanks, Good Info,

Interesting in what you say because I am currently to be looking at one after the holiday with 3.37 hours / 43 flights in really great shape with extras, in which unfortunately the owner is deceased. His parents want me to buy it so to pay it off.

If they cannot know the data he had for binding I wonder what DJI would need to help me assume ownership? I take it there is a pass code unique to the owner?

I'd suggest Ebay unless FB offers some form of buyer protection.

Thanks,

If all is as I'm told, and it flies for me I'll most likely nab it. I'll share be it Good, Bad or Ugly. And the pricing. As for this purchase scenario and how it goes may be useful to others one day, perhaps not.

Thanks for all of your patience. Being a new member and my posts have coming out of left field, I expect and appreciate any frankness. But I have a direction and you guys are a great help.
I hope to show footage of the Alafia River Fl areas, and Talking Rock GA Mountain and Creek areas in future.

If they cannot know the data he had for binding

Assuming they still have his phone you could in theory unbind it yourself

Thank You,  I found out the Mother actually purchased it and has the proof of purchase and maybe more info. I'm not pressing it until in front of it and her.

Hi there,

Thank You for reaching out. We highly encourage users buy from an official site or authorized dealer to avoid such issue. However, if you have bought a second hand product the seller should be able to unbind the product if it is a product direct from the owner.

I hope this information has helped to clarify your inquiries. If you have any other questions, kindly let us know. Thank You!

Two words:  CARE REFRESH

Buy new drone.   Fly it.   Crack it up.  Send it in with ~$50  and get a new one.  Be more careful the second time.

It costs  a bit more if you can't actually FIND the drone after it crashes.

Protip: Don't do stupid stuff out of easy walking range to the potential crash site.

I want to report the sale for a used Mini 4 was legit but the parent of the previous owner didn't have a clue enough to inspect its condition. I didn't even power it up. There was caked dried grime in the motor windings and visible in the housing through the vents behind the gimbal, and in the USB & Card slots. There was debris in the bottom of the shoulder bag. I attempted to pull the battery out of curiosity and could hear the grime behind the buttons and let go.
They drove a considerable distance. I explained my findings and had to decline.

As for a Mini 5 Pro release, I can make it happen 31 days after purchasing a Mini 4 when the return policy would run out. Not gonna do that. I really want stick time before running a Mini as I have not touched drone controls in years. To pacify I have a Tello Boost Combo and Game sir T1D Remote Controller until the 5 shows up. I want to have at least some kind of muscle memory before hand.
