Thanks @Captain! You help me understand things a little better! Unfortunately, I am a professional pilot, but I don't fly in full manual mode. I think What I am trying to highlight here is a very dagerous decrease in safety features that were available in previous generation of dji drones and that are dangerously disapearing : For example, In the Mavic 2 we were able to set up 2 levels of low battery alert : Low battery warnoing (that I usually set up to 30%) and Criticall battery warning (15%). Now with the Mavic 3, there is no customization of this type of alerts. And Specifically with the AVATA 2, I don't have the choice to disable the auto RTH, and it is very difficult to regain contyrole once it is launched! For example : I am flying in a forest : I don't want RTH at all, and the drone will still try to RTH with low battery...
While I think it would be advantageous to have the option to disable low-battery RTH, I've never had any problems cancelling RTH when it kicks in. You get a warning count-down before it engages, which gives you enough time to move to a slightly more open spot, and then you can immediately cancel it once it begins. You write that, "it is very difficult to regain control once it is launched", but this should not be the case. Just one button press on your controller is all it takes to cancel.
Although we can't disable the low battery RTH, are you aware that we do have options for the loss-of-signal RTH? If signal loss occurs, you can instruct the drone to either land or hover, instead of RTH. When flying in a forest I set it to hover, and hope that I can move closer to the drone and regain signal before the low battery RTH kicks in. Mind you, I've had problems regaining control from hover (with the Avata1), even when the signal improves. |
