hi,

Recently while flying with Goggles 3 I had this crazy idea for a new feature.
Since a lot of drones now transmit Remote ID with its position, it would  be great if on the FPV view in Goggles, the position of those drones  will be marked on screen, so when flying You will see other drone  positions and can avoid them.

Remote ID is bluetooth based, and often transmitted only from the controller, so unless you're standing or flying within like 10m of other pilots, there would be nothing for you to see.

Isn't it 'Up to 100m' for BTLE (at least when not in building) ?
And doesn't DJI (at least for some drones like Mavic 3), use WiFi based RemoteID ?

You could get even more than that in ideal conditions with big external antennas, sure. But in reality, 10m is range you can reliably count on in your average environment with your average consumer devices. Even if we go with optimistic estimate of 50-100m, if you're close enough to a drone to pick up its RID, you're probably close enough to hear it anyway.

Just to be clear. I did not say this idea is bulletproof

I could hear it, but standing there with FPV goggles on, might be hard to estimate exact position by sound only. If it is marked in googles I could see if this 'incoming' drone is on collision course or not. Especially when You fly with a friend in the same area.

Second thought about it, since usually You see what 'drone sees' then if the drone is ex. 400m away from You, it might be hard to hear another drone as it is too far away, it might also be hard to spot them in Goggles as it is small. Marking such drone would help to spot them.

Not to mention that Goggles might warn You that there is a second drone behind You so do not make sudden movements as they might collide, and in such situations (second drone is outside of field of view, 50m warning might be enough to avoid any unpleasant situations).

Is that true for Avata 2 with Goggles3 ?

"Remote ID is bluetooth based"
no, it can be Bluetooth or WiFi based. I will do a test which one DJI is using on Avata 2, but on Air 3 it was WiFi as far I remember from my first test a while ago

"often transmitted only from the controller"
no, it's not broadcasted by controller, EASA/FAA require broadcasting by the unmanned aircraft. (it would be pointless to transmitt via controller, because how would they identify a drone that is f.e. spotted 10km deep in a restricted area?). The position of the pilot is transferered to the drone, and broadcasted together with all the other data from the UAS.

"flying within like 10m"
no, Bluetooth 5 Longrange is up to 1km. As it does only require a low speed unidirectional data transfer, the distance of 1km can be easy achieved with a few mW TX power. Almost all new mobile phones can receive that data.
