There were several old buildings which were familiar of course (particularly the church).
But a lot of my old haunts are gone (including the house where I lived).

It's a block of maisonettes now - and looking pretty scruffy

Splendid 360 Mr. B.    I love the architectural style of the old church.  Some new construction ongoing behind the church.  

The church was the first site that caught my attention, I like the architecture and I'm sure it's even more beautiful inside.
I see there another building with 4 columns next to some construction.
Do you know what that is?

When I was a kid that was the Town Hall.  It's now a Costa Coffee franchise, with a modern ODEON Cinema built onto the rear of the building. Sacrilege

It always amazes me how some towns stay small and very little changes over the years whereas other towns grow tremendously and the whole looks of the city change with it.

Seems that way in all cities though,  20 years passes and some parts aren't recognisable.      I spent hours searching for a building near a pub that I thought would make a good photo,   I went there twice,    searched google maps couldnt find it,    it was driving me potty,    until I stumbled across a post about an old market that was demolished in 2009 and bingo thats where my building went.

Indeed,  and even the green belt seems more and more at threat around here,   they are now talking about building on the fields around the castle to build more residential homes and some community spaces.

I suspect when I get home we'll see plenty of signs and at some point a demonstration.      This will annoy two type of people,  those that like that open space and the castle and those that hate the traffic and lack of dr's appointments etc.
