Among other things. It can get pretty nasty there.

Sometimes building away from the city helps save on property taxes.  However, then you just give that savings right back in gas costs for commuting to and from.  My motive for living outside the city is my extreme hate of HOAs, CDDs and all their stupid and petty rules.

There really is and I looked at all options before I finally settled on a location.  Turns out it has been a great choice.

Finding the right retirement spot is a bit easier when you are an "empty nester".  On my pre-retirement search I was driving down I95 and each time I'd stop for gas I'd ask if it snowed there.  About halfway through Florida the guy said to me "what is snow".  I knew at that point I was close to where I wanted to retire at.

We are empty now, just waiting for the kids to find their permanent hoe base. Then we can start to look.

I try to warn people not to make a transaction until you have to. The tax ramifications can be severe. Lots of people move on a whim.

I learned that lesson really early on in life and it has stuck with me ever since.  One of the guys I graduated from Law school with went into the USAF and when he got out he specialized as a Tax Attorney.  He shared lots of important financial tidbits with me over the years.  The way the tax laws keep changing it can get hard to stay on top of them but it is a must to do.

I was a series 7 and 63 financial advisor for about 10 years. Also a commodities and options principal. I learned enough to make some money and stay out of trouble but the laws keep changing and they laways get worse.

You've really had a myriad of jobs over the years.  I have to agree with you on the tax laws not changing in favor of the taxpayers.

I was listening to a motivational speaker boast about how many entities he had been involved in and I laughed becuase I've had more than 30. I'm a serial Entrepreneur.

Lots of truth in that statement.  At the end of my lawyer career I was definitely getting burned out.

I guess I made out as I had planned for retirement for over 20 years and had a viable plan in place.
