I have a cellphone talk/txt plan. But no internet data. I tried using the dji fly app to activate the NEO and no luck (iphone). I tried activating it with an android tablet and also failed.

For those of you who successfully activated your NEO WITHOUT a data plan cell phone - how did you do it. I do have full wifi but when the DJI fly app connects to the NEO it does so via the wifi network and kicks off my router supplying my internet.

How did you activate yours (I even tried the assist dji program with a windows PC...it connects and upgraded the NEW but cannot "activate" it).  I don't even know why activation is needed except for DJI to be controlling. I never had to do this with my orig mavic prodrone.

Any tips appreciated.

Try installing the Assistant 2 program to your PC.  Run Assistant 2, login to your DJI account, then connect the Neo to the PC via a USB-C cable.  This is how I inadvertently activated my original Avata.

If that doesn't work, ask a friend with a cell phone that includes a data plan for an assist.  Install Fly to their phone & activate your Neo.  Once activated they can remove the Fly app from their device.

You need to get a Data plan for your phone. It amazes me that in 2024 anyone would have an iPhone 11 without a data plan. I suspect there is no way to do it without a data plan. Investigate the cheapest bata plan available

Yes. And wifi was connected. Then the fly app looked for the neo and found it but then booted me off wifi to allow neo to connect to the wifi thus blocking internet.

I've had this problem with other dji products such as the action 2 and 3. It's the obsessive need to "activate" which carrys no added value to the actual drone. It's pure bureaucracy.

So that is why I was hoping to find someone who activated it via non data phone or tablet. And as an armchair lawyer, DJI in none of its documentation says having an active data cell plan is required to buy this drone. They actually could get sued for the trouble they are creating by not being transparent.

You really don´t give up do you? Starting several threads with the same subject. Get thiss: when you connect your phone to the Neo it uses your wifi for that and it uses the  data plan that is how it connect to the Internet. Activation is for warrany purposes but maybe you rebelliosly dont give a d*mn you seem like such a person. Just want to tell everyone how evering just sucks. Good luck.

The problem arises because, when the phone connects to the Neo Wi-Fi, it disconnects the Wi-Fi connection with an internet data link.  Hence the device can no longer communicate with the DJI server to activate the drone.

The Neo refuses to activate even with assistant to protect us from hooligans in the air.
It definitely must have AI built in.

Did you get any error message from Assistant 2?

Another option if you have a second mobile or tablet would be sharing the internet via Bluetooth.
Device A is connected to Wifi and shares Internet via Bluetooth
Device B is connected to Neo via WiFi and connected to Device A via Bluetooth

It's really slow, but maybe enough for activation
I've tested this kind of setup between android phone and android tablet. I was able to search for Firmware Update, so the setup itself works without mobile data.

Forgot that this one is WiFi connection only unless you have remote.

Can you tether for your internet with Bluetooth, or borrow a data SIM?

Read from Facebook, use a USB to ethernet dongle to connect your tablet or phone to wired internet.

I had, and still have to use the mobile plan to connect to my dji neo, because using only the wifi from the mobile phone I can't connect to the application. It's a pretty weird, but it's the way it works( at least on my own experience).

Hi just bought the Neo, looks really cool. I have a Motorola E13 but the app won't load on my phone, says it's downloaded but won't open up. You click on the app and it opens up for 2-3 seconds then nothing. Can you help please

If you use an android phone, you need to download the apk for the latest version of the fly app from DJI because it is not available in the Google play store. Uninstall and reinstall if it does not open.

I don't know why DJI are allowing all these problems with their Neo drone. I sent my drone back for a refund.
Also DJI do not seem to care a F. with all these confusing and stupid  answers they keep giving.
I have just ordered another Neo because I heard that besides my home wifi I also need data on my mobile phone when doing the activation. But back it will go for another refund if I get the same problem of it disconnecting from the wifi while I'm activating again this time.
