I searched and couldn't find anything in this forum on Remote ID for the new DJI Neo.

I searched the manual and on page 82 - 83 (Section 6.10 C0 Certification) I found the following:

Direct Remote ID
• Transport Method: Wi-Fi Beacon.
• Method of uploading the UAS Operator Registration Number to the aircraft: Enter DJI
Fly, tap > Safety > UAS Remote Identification, and then upload UAS operator
registration number.

I went into the DJI Fly app and the closest I could find to any Safety menu was on the Settings tab, which didn't have anything about UAS Remote ID. There are two options for Sensors and 1 option for Battery.

Can someone from DJI elaborate on this, specifically for pilots in the US?

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

Currently, the DJI Neo built-in RID only supports Chinese and Japanese RIDs only. In the US, non-commercial use drones less than 250 grams do not require the addition of an RID module. If you are using it for commercial use, you need to add a third-party RID module.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us for assistance. Thank you.

Hi there,
thank you for reaching out.

Thank you for confirming. I have a lightweight RID module and will use it when necessary.

Sub 250gm UAS.  No need for RID in the USA for those who only hold a recreational small UAS registration

Sub 250gm UAS.  No need for a RID for those who only have a recreational only, small UAS registration.

No real world experience with the Neo. Just ordered the Neo a couple days ago. But based on flying a handful of micro and mini quads over the past +decade. Every additional gram effects the performance of these lightweight and low powered quads.  On the quad (similar size) that the Neo replaces I sometimes add a ViFly self powered crash beacon (LED & beeper) that goes off after a set level of impact.  It's only ~6gm but reduces flight time.  IIRC, DJI notes that flight time of the Neo is reduced by a minute just by the mass of the top removable prop guards. Drag and minimal mass.

When do you think an RID will be necessary.

" Recreational RC models with a flying weight of less than 250 grams are exempt from the Remote ID requirement, even when not flying at a FRIA; however, this exemption does not apply if the model is listed under the pilot’s FAA UAS recreational pilot registration (the FAADroneZone)."  From the AMA website.  So if you don't list the Neo among your FAA UAS pilot registration.  No need for RID. I've never listed a sub250gm fixed or must-rotor UAS for that reason.
