Hi there,

I have just purchased OA5. I have recharged the camera and turned it off. When I woke up in the morning and wanted to take the camera with me for a hiking run - I found that batter drained from 100% to 57%. The camera was off. At least, I think so. Looks like when OA5 is in sleep mode, it keeps doing some heavy stuff with the battery.
Can you suggest any fix? Seems like the only solution is to take the battery out. But common... it is a PRO action camera.
I would love to hear any feedback from the DJI professionals.

Kind regards,
Den

I think sleep mode (stand by) and off are not the same thing, but I could be wrong...

Yes, absolutely agree. So my question could be silly, but I don't understand how to turn off the camera. After pressing and holding a QS (ON/OFF) button for 1-2 sec - the camera, seems to go to sleep, instead of turning off. I don't understand how to change it.

Is there nothing in the manual regarding this?

EDIT:

I just read the manual and it seems that you are not doing anything wrong as far as turning it off, so perhaps you didn't fully charge it until the LED light went off or you may need to charge it few times before it works as intended...

In the manual, it says, that after the camera is in sleep mode for 30 minutes - it will automatically power off after that. Whatever it means - I don't understand.   Because it is not okay, that 40% of the battery drained just in 8 hours over night, while the camera was off.
So maybe somebody has any suggestions - I would be glad to hear.

Like Burt mentioned, be sure that it was fully charged. 100% is not 100% if not lights are off.

The screen went off after being in 100% charging state for about 15 minutes. So I assume - it was 100%.
Even this morning I have recharged it back too 100%. And now it is close to 70%. The camera was off.

This is not a refresh of OA4 it is a completely new camera. So a lot of these bugs have to do with the new hardware. I hope Dji will sort out the bugs and features with these new cameras soon. BTW mine does not seem to have the issue you described

Sorry t ohear you are having a power drain issue, try resetting the camera to factory reset, then charge and, let sit for a few hours and  report back with the  percentage again, ifit is normal then reset the camera up, but do make sure the app is forced off before doing anything and not on . never know.

Just checked mine, last time I used it was Sunday morning. After extracting the files I exchanged the battery for another one that was already charged(completely new). Today the battery is at 90% which seems normal to me specially with a new battery. Maybe the wireless connection is preventing it from completely being turn off? In my case I just used the app to update it and then closed it so it was no longer connected to my phone.

I have found similar complains from many people about Osmo Action 4 https://forum.dji.com/thread-299052-1-1.html
Seems like a software bug. I'm disconnecting now a wireless connectivity option in settings and will check soon if it helps.

As Johan...  wanted a test, I am running one now, and report later today on it with that video.
Update it's 5 hours later.   that would be enough time to say turn on,  its still off and waiting to try & see.

Added notes: camera is still off as I say about the camera

1 if camera is on and you're  setting up it will use about 15% of battery
2. if you are playing around to set things up it can use about 5-10% battery

From 100% 50 53%  drain in an 8 hour time that is what like 7% per hour so it is safe for me to   check the camera in the next few hours.

Thank you for the detailed video.
I also followed your suggestion to make a factory reset and then re-charge the battery to full, and leave as it is for a night. I did it, and 9 hours later it was still 97%. Which is good.
I have checked the battery at 7am. After I re-checked it again at 9am - the battery was already 87%.
So, something is killing the battery, after the camera was turned and off again on. After the factory reset I didn't configure any wireless connection. Just left as it is.
I have ordered a new battery. It should arrive today. I will check with the new battery. If the problem persists - I will return a device.

Hi Den,

Thank You for reaching out. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing. We appreciate your feedback. To accommodate common usage scenarios for action cameras, we have extended the standby time to 8 hours. Although the device may consume some battery during this period, it is not expected to significantly affect the overall usage duration. Kindly be assured of this. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Hi Gamora,
Thank you for your feedback. Would it be possible, in the future, to have a feature, when the users will decide a stand-by time? It would be more convenient. And give more confidence.
I will test a camera with the new battery for the next few days. If the problem is not gone, I must return/replace the device.

You're welcomed:

1 DJI says 8 hour stand  by, they then should allow a  window of choices. its now defaulted 8 hours, so Long press off only   boots back on, a battery pull may not be long enough to   trick off a test will be needed

2 Battery replacement on a new product, totally understand you wanted  to  try a new one where DJI could have swapped out with a  ship time iffound defective

3 return is what I still do as I find my camera the only one (for me ) trouble free

Here is  the video from 11:AM standby 6 hours later turned on to read and Yes 6:AM 12 hours later turning on the first time  does DJI have an Answer for that? Not hijacking but supporting this thread DV the is baby

Thank you Fishycomics, for the detailed overview.

I received a new battery today from Osmo Action 4 (1770mA). And things look better (more like normal). I will have more updates in the next few days.
I noticed, that on the battery, that I purchased today - there is a QR code on side. But on the original battery from the pack - there is no QR code. Does anyone know what it means? I have scanned this QR code and it showed me the information about the battery. But why there is no QR code on the original battery from the pack? Maybe DJI Gamora knows?
I will have a week of vacation. And after that, I will request to send me a new battery or will replace the camera.

Happy to hear that its looking normal   enjoy your vacation and have fun with the camera

This actually happend to mine now aswell.
I had it fully charged 2 days ago and yesterday I only turned it on and formatted the card, but today it was down to 72% and drained fast down to 54% when I used it for 20ish minutes.

Yes I will think it was fully charged since I let it charge way longer than after it show 100% on screen (like I always do). Not sure if this was a one time incident, but will have to try this out again to see what could cause it.

What firmware you you on, there are two in the camera, and  also the mimo app. the sdxc card used, if not are you using  internal only and or internal and external. I use my camera every single day and never noticed a drop at all.   In order for DJI to understand your issue you must have a photo, and a video of the issue and as well a  log report.  You may note in on the site and own thread, and would be best to get with the actual technical team for an Immediate answer as her they do not answer on the spot and will redirect
that info can be found at DJI.com chat.

Okay, something really fantastic happened to my Action 5 Pro. This problem with the battery draining has been continued till last week. I already decided, that when I get back from vacation - I will replace the camera through Care Refresh. But something unexpected happened!
Last week I decided to test DJI Action 5 Pro how it works at the boundary temperatures: from -20C to +45C. I have recorded a video of the test. It is here
And since this test was performed - the battery behaviour has completely changed to normal. No more battery draining.. I don't understand what happened, but seems like exposing camera to the low and high temperature has fixed it. I would really love if anyone from DJI Support could provide some possible clarifications on what possibly happened.
Did anyone notice this behaviour?

Interesting theory.
I still think the charging of the camera is different than Action 3/4 so that 100% is not at 100% until a while after.

I always wait until the screen is off and no indication of charging anymore. On Action 5 Pro there is no green led indicator, but the screen animation. The problem was not with the charging, but with the draining. There are similar questions on reddit about the same problem.

I do the same and sometimes I wait even longer. And I have atleast once had the battery drain over night, but most times it is not happening.

Maybe DJI needs to freeze and bake their cameras before dispatching them to the clients
I would love if anyone from the tech support DJI would take a look and answer.
I remember reading on Reddit, that some person described it, that after sending the camera back to DJI - they have found a faulty motherboard. and they replaced the camera.

Believe it or not, but after that cold/heat test I've performed, the camera behaves just perfectly. I'm saying "camera", not a "battery", because I had the same problem even with the spare battery.
DJI support didn't say anything so far. Perhaps the exposure to extreme temperatures has fixed some components on the motherboard.

This has happened to me, I ended up sending the camera back and getting another one, only to find the same issue. From 100% to 57% in the morning, and tried with all three of my batteries fully charged unacceptable.  I then thought it must be something I am missing, but it looks like an actual fault in these cameras, I hope DJi are going to address this either by way of hardware or software. I also have the original Osmo action as well as the action 4 and have zero issues with these.
