DJI Fly app not working without GPS

Hi,
I'm using my Lenovo Tab to download my work from drone and edit videos. This tablet does not have GPS - it's important.


I was using version 1.12 before "DJI Before You Fly" funcionality was introduced. In any version after that I'm stuck with screen waiting for location. I cannot enter library, settings, anything. App is stuck on this screen.
Today I found out that version 1.12 stopped working. It's just closing on open.

How can I access my videos in other way than manually access SD card?
I don't have any other device and to fly I'm using RC with display.

1. Why DJI Fly 1.12 just stopped working?
2. And more important why do I need GPS just to access videos gallery?
When it will be fixed?

Hi there. DJI Fly app needs to enable location permission because it needs to identify the region/country code where the device is located and make some specific push notifications based on the software's own functions.

Hi,
To be clear problem with location is in official version downloaded from this site https://www.dji.com/pl/downloads/djiapp/dji-fly and tested on latest version: 1.14.2 and many more before.
Last version that I was able to run was 1.12 and now it stopped working.

I understand that app need location to fly and to other functions but why app hangs on and I cannot even access gallery? It's just not responsive and waits for location that it cannot get.

Hi there.
The reason why you need to enable location permission to access the album is that when QuickTransfer transmits, it needs to determine whether the country supports 5.8GHZ transmission. For example, Japan does not allow 5.8G. If you do not determine it, using 5.8g will violate local regulations. Therefore, you need to obtain location permission to determine the country and then determine whether 5.8G is supported.
However, even if there is no GPS, you can still obtain location information and locate it through the network. You can try using the latest version of DJI Fly app to connect to the network and see if you can access the album. If it still doesn't work, please send us a screenshot of your settings interface for further analysis.

Hi,
I've checked all versions available at:
https://dji-fly.en.uptodown.com/android/versions
All versions before 1.13.10 (Jul 19, 2024) do not even start since last system update and all versions after hangs on intro screen.

Now returning to official current version - by the way Google Play Protect recognize this app as dangerous.
App opens up, even allows to log in and right after that it hangs on attached screen.



Location is enabled and wifi also. Tablet does not have SIM card.
Google Maps show my location without any problems.



Android version: 12
Device: Lenovo P11 5G TB-J607Z

I would be happy to provide any logs that could help resolve this issue.

Hello. You can refer to the following suggestions.
1. Please exit the DJI Fly app. Set “Font Size” and “Screen Zoom” to default settings in System Settings. Or, change the font to a minimum and then return to the app for operation.
2. If there is no “Next” option after zooming out the interface, click the blank area (the original Next position).

I don't believe it. I've checked your suggestions but neither font size nor zoom setting changed anything but...
Since you brought this up I started to click on white short bar on the right of Before you fly and after several times it work and another screen of tutorial showed up with text 2/3 and with next button available.
So the problem was not GPS or location but messy first step of tutorial that wasn't showing correctly. Luckily it only shows one time but it would be good to fix this.
Either way thank you for your help. It all works fine again.
