Just received an email that my Neo FlyMore shipped.  In the USA so it wasn't scheduled to ship until 10/06.  I appreciate the early shipment.

Oh interesting. That may be sort of good news, but if its coming from China it still may hit your doorstep at the target release 10/6. Looking at online US retailers like Best Buy and Amazon, still the same date or later.

The rumor I heard was the USA units are being manufactured in Taiwan.  We shall see.  It shipped DHL but the tracking isn't showing up yet.  When the Mavic 2 was released I received mine next day by 10:30 am from Shenzhen.

Wow that was quick for an overseas shipment on the Mavic 2 back then!
I'm wondering if DJI already shipped large quantities of Neo's to retailers, just waiting to get the greenlight to sell and ship.

It shipped from Dongguan, China.  I can't tell which DHL service level they used  It just says "expedited".

I ordered from a U.S. retailer, but don’t have any shipping updates yet.

I have received several DJI shipments from Dongguan in 24 hours to Sweden with Standard shipment service - it only takes more than that if it gets jammed up in Chinese customs in some way so yeah they do have top notch logistics for sure and it's always free if you buy a drone even if it's just a Neo drone only for 199 USD :-) If you compare with other Chinese companies selling cheap stuff the usually collect orders after they are picked up until they have enough to fill their quota on the freighter then on the next stop they are collecting more sometimes for days. You'll end up with 14-25 working days of shipping where in the end it's handed over to a local postal or messenger service for "last mile" delivery.

DHL is projecting delivery for Monday September 30.  I believe it was set for 2nd Day but DHL doesn't appear to offer weekend deliveries in the USA.  Also note only the Neo FlyMore kit shipped.  The RC-N3 & extra battery are shipping separately.

Mine is showing the same delivery date. Doesn’t seem to be any indication that the drone was in Taiwan from the tracking info.

Mine either.  It went from Dungguan to Shenzhen where it currently sits.  The Taiwan rumor was something I heard on Mad's Tech a few weeks back.

Curious to the number of Neo, both bare and fly more kits that have sold worldwide. Sold=paid for and either delivered or delivery pending. Guessing the Neo production line capacity is set to maintain world wide inventory levels based on future demand vs. release surge.  Maybe DJI underestimated demand and did not pre-release manufacture enough units?  Personally not a real big issue having to wait for the scheduled shipping date noted at order time. Just hope not so far back on the list so delivery is as noted.

If you ordered direct from DJI, when did you order & what was the estimated shipping date when you ordered?  I ordered within minutes of the launch & 10/6 was the estimated ship date.  I did not notice that when I ordered on 9/05 & only saw the "6", thinking I would have it in only a couple of days.  Glad it is shipping early.  If you try to order now from DJI they are listed as out of stock.

I imagine sales for the Neo will be high given the innovative features & low price.  I am currently playing the waiting game on another tech product, the Dwarf 3 telescope/astrocam from Dwarf Labs.  Ordered it a few months back with an estimated ship date of early October.  That just got bumped back to late December.  Hopefully it will make for a nice Christmas present to myself.

Part of DJI marketing costs.  Which is factored into their product costs.

Wonder what the gross and net margins are for the Neo?
Received the FPV RC3 yesterday. Couple days from placing the order. DJI ships fast if direct from USA warehouse.  Superficially it seems like a basic Tx but very functional for flying the Avata2.  The $199 price seems to be steep for what you get, but if you want to fly DJI...  Only "modern" Tx purchased prior to RC3 has been the $59 RadioMaster Pocket ELRS. Open TX version. Worth the $59. Guessing margins for DJI hardware are significant. Life. Buy, pay, fly DJI and accept the cost.

Ordered the Neo Fly More kit on Sept.12 or 14th.  Order noted shipping date of Oct 6th.

Just received an email at 2024UTC noting the kit is shipping. Added some other hardware to the Neo order . That is also shipping but as a separate shipment.  Guessing the Neo kit is coming from China. The parts are from the USA warehouse.  The race begins. DLH v. domestic shipping service.  The FPV RC3 was shipped UPS next day air.  Betting on UPS to beat DLH. Especially up here.  DLH contracts a "last miles" shipper.  Sometime USPS.

That is inexpensive advertising.  On launch date the social sites are filled with scores of hands-on reviews showing the new product, building excitement & promoting sales.  Dwarf Lab did the same thing with the Dwarf 3 telescope I am waiting for, as did ZWO when the Seestar S50 was on the horizon.  Reviewers in the astrophotography community were provided pre-production units that were seen by thousands of people who, excited by what they saw, placed pre-orders.

"Shilltubing" is part of the marketing cost. Reviewers get paid for their review once it's approved by the manufacturer. They have a general script to work off of, usually regurgitating specs. It's not exclusive to DJI.

DC Rainmaker refused an early access review of the Action 5 because of these demands...

Stretching out delivery schedules could also be part of marketing. Keeps us "talking" about the Neo.

OFFTOPIC: Living in what use to be a Bortle2 area, now B3.  Still trad. night observation with a 150mm Dob and 102 doublet refractor.  Add a Lunt50 double stacked solar scope. Makes UAS flying an inexpensive hobby. But the observation hardware holds value or appreciates and doesn't break unless like drones it hits the ground.  But... aging eyeballs. Now have floaters in the dominate eye when exit pupils are less than 1mm. SeeStar has me interested. Like FPV. View through the lens of a camera and OLED/LED screen.

I envy your Bortle 2/3.  It's 7/8 in these parts.  In the early 2000's I bought an LX200-GPS & an ETX-105.  I ordered the Dwarf 3 a while back & am patiently awaiting the release.  Ironic you mention a Seestar as I just bought one the other day to tide me over until the Dwarf is delivered.  It's been raining here for about a week so I haven't been able to enjoy first light.  I have played around with it indoors.  It is a nifty bit of tech & the price is amazing considering what it can do.  Having a completely self-contained astrophotography rig in such a portable package is super cool.   You will like a Seestar or Dwarf 3 if you get one.

Viewing on a screen from the comfort of your car or living room definitely beats viewing through an eyepice, especially when it's 20° outside.   The Seestar & Dwarf 3 together cost about as much as my ETX package.  Funny how much prices have gone up since I purchased my LX-200 GPS.  I believe I paid $2699 for the LX-200 GPS, which included the tripod, wedge, microfocuser, & the entire lineup of Series 4000 Plossals in an aluminum lens case.  I see the scope with field tripod currently lists for $4399.  I don't take it out much as it is such a chore to setup.  This is where the Seestar or Dwarf shine.

199 is steep? You must be joking? It's heavily discounted price is to kill the competitors and I would happily pay 399 but guess in reality you get tech and R&D for 999.

Not specifically the drones and goggles.. Why I finally decided to purchase my first DJI UAS.

Need to remember. American here. Land of everything should be inexpensive until it comes to your personal wage, salary, income.  But somehow personal debt, national debt is beyond stupid. Are we spoiled?

Batteries, Tx, propellers, chargers... are relatively expensive to most other brands. The price for wanting to fly DJI drones.  The Neo is a very good value. 04, looks to be a very robust platform.

I ordered 9/13 and had a ship date of 10/6 for delivery 10/8. I just looked at the dhl tracking info and my drone left china, arrived and departed LA, and arrived in Cincinnati today. That's not that far away from Upstate NY where I am really. Maybe it will make it to me on Monday? Just ordered the new RCN3 to go with it and there's no sign that that's shipped. I hope it does soon. I've got a trip mid October that I was going to take the drone on.

I received my Neo from DHL about an hour ago. It took about 45 minutes to charge all 3 batteries but now I cannot connect it to the RCN2 controller, nor can I connect it to the goggles.

I wonder if DJI is preventing us from using the Neo until the advertised US release date?

Mine fired right up.  It needs to be activated.  Connect it to your phone first (a phone with data).  Enable Wi-Fi & Bluetooth, power up the drone, run Fly, then click the "Connect" button in the lower right & choose "Neo".  Follow the prompts.  It will activate itself then download & install the latest updates.  After that you should be able to connect to other controllers.

Note: Your Goggles 3 & all of your Neo-compatible RCs have to be running the latest firmware to connect to the Neo.  Make sure everything is up to date if you are having issues.

That may have been the issue. I was just able to connect via wiFi/Bluetooth and get it activated. Updating firmware now. Will see how it goes from here.

Thanks!

Finally got around to check the tracking number.  From China to Cincinnati to Minneapolis in couple days. Might take longer to get from MSP to house than from China to MSP.  Nothing noted on who the delivery service is from MSP to here.  Just watched a video about the latest firmware update.  Interesting that the batteries have a firmware update. Video noted you need to update the firmware of not only of the one in your Neo when updating the quad, but all other. Looked simple using the DJI Fly App. Presenter did not restart his Neo after the quad update was complete. Just loaded the next battery into the Neo. Then on the still connected DJI Fly App click Profile>Settings> Check for Firmware Updates. Update process of that battery initiated. Repeat....

Wonder what issue was corrected with the battery firmware update. Guessing something to do with charging profile or other safety issue?

They have freed & removed the cargo ship, cleaned up all the debris, & completely reopened the channel.  Thankfully the NFZ has been removed from the area as well.   They have not even begun reconstruction.  Last I read they are in the process of collecting bids on the project with an estimated timeframe for reopening sometime in 2028-2029.

Yes traffic is a mess.  Hazmat vehicles are not permitted in the tunnels & generally used the bridge to pass through Baltimore.  Now they are all forced around the north side of the Baltimore beltway.  Rush hours are not much fun.

When the NFZ was rescinded I did a flyover of what remains of the bridge.  I'll have to post it at some point.  I am definitely looking forward to the reconstruction & capturing views of the new span.  The Key Bridge was iconic for the local area.

We could use some of the rain that came before, during, and after Helena.  Red Flag forest fire warnings up again due to unseasonably dry and warm conditions. 80F/27C and +30kt gusts yesterday.  Cold front blew last night. Still too windy to fly.  Nearshore small craft warning with possible gale conditions.  Air temp dropped to 8C/46F by sunrise.  Went windsurfing yesterday. Blew my last jibe and watched my gear cartwheel downwind. Hint to pack it in before I break something. My luck it will be my good thumb and be limited to flying with the MC3.

I activated mine & allowed it to perform the update.  I only installed one battery so I guess I'll get notified if a battery update is required when I pop in the others?   Did a quick follow me test around the warehouse.  It worked well & was not as loud as I was expecting.  Man those props are tiny!  I will say this, in the autonomous modes it does not like even moderately dim lighting.  The warehouse is pretty well lit, but each time the drone passed under a rack overpass it would stop tracking, pause, then land itself.  I have not paired  it with an RC or the goggles yet.  Been raining here for going on two weeks.   We are considering building an ark!

This AM, UPS delivered spare parts ordered.
This afternoon, the DLH contracted regional delivery service delivered the Neo Fly More Kit.

Batteries charging.

Yes, small propellers for a small quad.
