Hi, i purchased a DJI NEO  yesterday and so far im so happy with it. I'm a photographer and i also make music clips, so i can use it several ways.

But i allready noticed  charging one battery can take up to two hours! Is this normaal or is my charger too weak?

Really would like to know.

Regards,
Paul

It depends on the power adapter. A decent 65W one can charge the three batteries in ~60 minutes. If you are talking about the drone, it is limited to ~15W, so it should take around 45-50 minutes to charge one battery.

Neo needs 10W minimum to charge, and 15W is max charging rate. So the only way your battery would take 2h to charge is if it's not getting consistent 10W+. Try a different cable, different charger/port etc. Ikea has a nice cheap 30W USB-C PD charger (sjoss) for 7€ and even their 2.5€ USB-C cable (sittbrunn) is capable of delivering up to 60W so you can have a complete charging solution at full speed for under 10€.

Thanks to both of you for the quick reply!

Ok, so i learned a lot tonight. I checked the one i was using and it has no wattage info on it, only v + a, but i found another one and it says 15W, 20W, 27W and 33W at different Ah's.

So i guess the problem is solved! :-)

Thank you guys!

Ps. Fichek, would you please look at my other question?
Thanx

You only need 45W for the hub since it's also limited to 15W per battery.

https://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/neo/20240919/DJI_Neo_User_Manual_v1.0_en.pdf

It supports 65 W. In fact, if you use something below 45 W, it will only charge one battery at a time.

  • When used with a USB charger, the DJI Neo Two-Way Charging Hub can charge up to three DJI Neo Intelligent Flight Batteries. When used with the DJI 65W Portable Charger, the charging hub can fully charge three Intelligent Flight Batteries in approximately 60 minutes.

And:

  • The maximum charging power supported for the USB-C port on DJI Neo is 15 W.

Yeah, if you read on to page 66, you will see that 45W is all that the hub is gonna use. The only reason they mention 65W charger is that DJI doesn't sell a 45W one.

No. That part means that the three batteries will charge at the same time with 45 W or more (and decent adapters/cables, of course).

Again, charger provides up to 65 W, as advertised everywhere.

I haven't seen it advertised as 65W anywhere, what are you referring to?
Upon checking the charging hub bottom sticker, I was wrong, but you were wrong too a little bit it says up to 20V 3A, and the specs page now confirms this saying "Two-Way Charging Hub (60W max charging power)" https://www.dji.com/neo/specs (I don't remember that detail being there last time I checked).

Attach an inline power meter if you are curious about the charge C rate and other data.  Not much in term of cost($10-15) relative to a few years ago.  USB-C connectors.  Almost too many choices from large on line retailers like Amazon.  Have to remember. The maximum charge rate will only happen initially for a significantly depleted battery. Charging algorithms will set the charge rate to optimize battery charging and life cycles.  If you are really bored you can plot the curve by recording the data from your power meter.

Who can do more, can do less. So a 65 W charger for a maximum charge of 45 W is perfect, right?

Yes. In most situations.Maximum charging rate will be the lesser of the two. That is, either limited by the charging hub max charging capacity or the charging power source if lower than the hub's max capacity to charge..  There probably is probably a minimum charging source needed for the charging hub to work.
Faster is not always better in terms of overall battery health.  Time, heat, excessive depth of discharge, overcharging, excessive voltage sag, rate of discharge and/or charging all effect the life cycles/capacity of lithium based batteries. Luckily for charging, the DJI hubs seems to do a good job in reducing charging issues with minimal chance for user mistakes.
