Screen recording.

It is updating the home point not even close to where I am.  It doesn't recognize the remotes location.  The home point should be me and the controller but it is placing it off in the middle of nowhere.  Not near me or the drone.    It shows the warning I get at the 45 second mark.

The message tells you that GPS is not available on either the smart controller or, if used, the phone/tablet.
The most likely reason is that you simply do not have GPS or location services switched on.
If so switch it on and try again.

I’m using the RC2 and I didn’t change anything since last time I used it. Where would I turn on GPS on the RC2?

The video shows that the controller position is visible.
1) Try to update the remote control again.
2) Reset the remote control.

Have you tried it since doing this video, it may just have stopped picking up GPS, if its still doing it then try a firmware refresh using the assistant software

I have not had a chance to just restart everything and try it.  I was in a rush that day and it was getting windy.  And going to be that way for a bit yet.

I was thinking of the firmware refresh, can't hurt.

I was just wondering if anyone else had come across this issue.

Thanks.

Have you checked whether or not "location services" are SWITCHED ON on your controller ?

I didn’t change anything and I can’t find anything like location services as a setting.

Where would it be?

As I said previously when you asked an equivalent question.

No idea, sorry. you will have to google it.

Reading the controller's manual might be one place to start looking.

The controller has its own GPS.  There is no place to enable location services on a smart controller, it is always on.   FYI:  I googled all this before posting here.

So, your answer is 'google it' and 'read the manual'.  Thanks. I'll get right on that.

Of course the controller has its own GPS.
However the first photo in your opening post says "No satellite positioning signal on mobile device".
Three possible reasons for that occur to me.
1) the GPS unit is bust or masked by some attachment to the controller.
2) the controller is in an area where GPS satellites are invisible to the controller's GPS unit, or the visible satellites are too close together for the data that the GPS unit can create to be considered reliable. For me trees seem to be a common cause of GPS problems and ''middle of nowhere'' does not necessarily mean that you are not stood under a tree's canopy.
3) the GPS unit and perhaps location services are switched off. That is based on my use of a phone. Since I do not have any form of smart controller I think it is at least a reasonable thing for you to check.

"FYI:  I googled all this before posting here."
I think this is the first time you have mentioned this. If correct then we are not mind readers and can not know what you have done unless you tell us.

"So, your answer is 'google it' and 'read the manual'.  "
Yes, that is my answer to those questions that you asked.
In the absence of you mentioning that you have googled such things I think it is a perfectly reasonable expection for you to do.

It's quite surprising how many people come to forums without
1) having read the appropriate manual or
2) done a search and expect to be spoon fed. Those people that have done searches often mention it in their first posts even if those searchs yielded no usful results.

I have done all that.
If you don't have a smart controller, you are of no help.
And no, I didn't come here first.
I will not be replying to you anymore.

GPS on the RC 2 remote control is not disabled in the standard firmware. This can only be done with a hack.

I turned the controller on in my house, without turning on the drone and it is showing the location of the controller in the correct spot.  I didn't pay attention if it was showing the location of the controller when I was trying to update the home point during a flight.   Definitely be watching for that if it happens again.  If it is showing the location, it's getting GPS info.

I was doing a long waypoint mission and there was no need for the drone to fly back to the start, since I was following in my off-road vehicle.

1) Try to update the remote control again.
2) Reset the remote control.

I watched the video again.  When I am trying to update, it does show a blue dot where I was and that is not where it updated to.  It updated to up in the hills, where I or the drone never were.

I'll test next time I am out and probably do a firmware refresh via the assistant app, and if it works, I'll post here to let you know what worked or if it started working.
Edit:  I watched it again and it shows me touching the screen to where it updated to.  That was my fault, but still doesn't explain the 'no gps' on the controller.  Morte testing is needed. lol

Updating the firmware on the remote is a good idea, even if there is no new one, you can reinstall it, this will help fix the problems if there are any. If it does not help, then you will have to reset the remote to factory settings, this will delete all user data, but it is all easy to restore.

RC 2 has Android installed, but with very limited user capabilities. There is practically no way to change or even view anything. Only what is needed for the flight)

I want to test it one more time and if it didn’t fix itself with a restart of everything.  If nothing changes, I’ll start with your suggestions when the weather permits. 50-60 miles per hour winds today.  Home point wouldn’t help no matter where I put it. lol

Yes, I already said, there is no way to disable GPS, only if your remote is hacked, then there is access to hidden Android functions.

" I already said, there is no way to disable GPS,"
I read that prior to asking my question.

However, with a phone I believe "Location services" also include wifi, cell-network information and possibly blue-tooth . I doubt cell-network information is applicable to a smart controller but wifi information probably is and bluetooth might be.

So I was, in affect, asking about sources of location information other that GPS.

RC 2 does not support mobile communications (without installing an external modem). There are no options other than GPS for determining location.

Whilst i am not in the least bit surprised that it does not support a sim card and cell network communication, I am a bit surprised that it can't use wifi to at least enhance location accuracy when GPS quality is poor.
Anyhow, thanks for the information.

Hi,

Just noticed your post.

If you reset to the controller position (RC or phone ) than if the accurancy of the LatLon position is below certain threshold indeed this message is seen.

Message "No satellite...ect" few means:
  • indeed no satellite signal on device
  • few but not enough sats to get a valid position
  • enough sats but still no a valid position.

I have had this few times on various phones and tablets, but never using a RC or RC2.

cheers
JJB
