What is the orange building then?

Just a facade they used.
It's where elderly people live, but they are still 'on their own' and can use care if they need to.
In the past this was where the nurses would sleep, but that was a different building and long before these new buildings were built.

You're most welcome Peter.

I got out my chainsaw and cut up the two trees that got blown down by the hurricane.  Now I just have to figure out what to do with the logs.  I'll probably end up hauling them over to the reclamation area.

I'll show you later. The building site is gone now and lots of different types of buildings (houses) have been built.

Southern pine and chunk full of thick sap.  Only really good uses for Southern pine is in the production of pulp and paper products, pallets, crating, and other packaging.

Oh that is too bad. Otherwise I would say, let it dry in the water and get it cut up to nice water dried lumber.

That works well with pecan and oak but no way with pine.

They are becoming quite popular here too and this guy had them drying in water before cutting them, which made them even better apparently

It's creating much 'harder' wood that will last much longer.

Very interesting process.

That is how they did it in the past.
Slowly drying in the water for 6-12 months and then another 6-12 months in the air.
That way it does not warp etc.

I did visit a lumber mill once and it was very intriguing how they were drying wood by stacking it in a particular way to allow the air to get in to dry it out properly.  Each stack had a date mark stating when it would be ready to sell.

Yeah, they even keep it wet sometimes (at least, I have seen that being done in Sweden)

Too costly unfortunately these days, so most lumber is cut while still wet and that leads to all the warpyness.
