I skipped the 3 but the 3s might just make it into the basket, liking the beacon option if it truly is a beacon & the drone uses it for home point when in use.

I think 1’ sensor and beacon will be enough for me to change .

That makes it 50/50...

Maybe it is just me, but I'm starting to see a trend here... Perhaps it is time for DJI to work again on quality instead of quantity...

Keep releasing the near same product with just a different name number doesn't work well, does it?

Even the word Pro has completely lost its meaning...

Mind you, I'm on the fence on this one...

Edit: I just realise that it will not be compatible with my RC Pro, so, No, Thank you... I'll keep looking for a good deal on an Air 2S

For me the 1" sensor on the Air 3S with only a12mp sensor with a 50mp setting is the deal breaker
right off the bat.If it could have at least the same resolution as the Air2S.Unless technology has gotten so much better in a short amount of time, this I will pass on this probably.I am really waiting to see what the
Mavic 4 pro will have to offer, and that is the one I may go with.I have an Autel Evo Lite+ with a 1" sensor
and true 20mp resolution with variable app, fantastic camera. Also have a DJI Air 2.

How did DJI manage to lose 8mp of quality and still use the same size sensor?

That doesn't seem right.

The 1" sensor has to be still 20mp...

Nope it is in fact 12 mp with a 50mp setting. The dji osmo pocket 3 with a 1" sensor is only something like 9.3 mp.

I have never bought a Mavic drone way to overpriced and heavy. Much prefer the Air and mini series. Also not interested in camera specs more than they are now I generally film in 1080p

They will compensate for all of that in the software. We don’t need to just keep increasing data size of files they become unmanagable

To have to compensate in software because of lack of camera resolution just does not cut it.

Probably it depends on the use and on the drone already owned. In my case, I'm not interested in beacon, I usually do not use the follow me capability. And I own an Air 3 that provides videos in the quality I expect. I do not use the drone night time.
People owning an Air 2s or willing to have a more accurate follow-me may find this upgrade attractive enough to open their own pocket.

To have to compensate in software because of lack of camera resolution just does not cut it.

lets take two camera with a 1.23" sensor. one camera has 12mp on it and the other 20mp on it.

From everywhere I read 12mp will have less noise and better low light performance.

now on a bright day. wouldn't 20mp resolve more detail?

also if you take a 20mp image and apply some kind of noise removal and then down scale the resolution to 12mp would the image be the same or better quality

But I would imagine its a plus with lowlight video and these drones are very much video centric so when I look at the osmo pocket video its so good and seems to use all the 1” sensor. So maybe less pixel binning when shooting video and a much better video experience.
For those who like to print large you would be probably talking about a 20mp 1x1 19” and a 12mp 1x1 16” . Of course you can still add more pixels in post if you really need a big print or try the 50mp quad bayer sensor, I’m sure they are also improving all the time. Just my thoughts.

If the new Air 3S is only 12mp native, it doesn't really cut the mustard for a good landscape picture with plenty of details... That's why I think for still pictures and panorama the Air 2S is still the winner here...

Even with the three videos you posted, the Air 2S had the better quality of details... Like you said. it really boils down to what you use the drone for...

Which display did you use when looking at the videos I posted ? How about your network bandwidth ? I'm not sure YT is the best way to analyze the quality of the videos, for several reasons: it converts the videos to it's own codec, the streaming quality is influenced by the network bandwidth, on small devices the resolution is reduced.
When I'm looking at my videos on a 55" OLED TV connected to the NAS (cabled network), I cannot see any difference in the quality in favor of the Air 2S. With the Air 3 I can shot at 60 fps in 4K HDR HLG (Air 2S is limited to 30 fps), I can use the 3X camera, I've OccuSync 4 and many control capabilities not available on Air 2s.
I agree that in many cases the Air 3 is not a worth upgrade from the Air 2S, but probably the Air 3S will be (but not from the Air 3 ...).
I'm not taking many pictures, then I cannot provide any feedback about the quality of the photos.

I agree, I'll wait for the 2026 rules and hope the C1 rating applies as per the Easa rules. Sold the Mavic 2 due to the 150 metre rule. It's really annoying.

Any word on the RC N3 controller being better in any way ? So far all I have seen is it's lighter with 1/2 the battery of the previous controllers .I dont know  about it being better I liked the bigger battery for charging Android device while flying.  O4+ or O5 would be nice.

I joined FPV UK so I can continue to fly the Mavic 2 under article 16 rules which are pretty good but I cant use that for anything commercial so that limits what I can use it for.

I must admit I'd forgot about article 16, I also subscribe to FPV UK, probably because all my drones are below 250g. I won't be getting the Air3s, but looking forward to the release of it today.

Ok, it has been officially released. In my humble opinion, it provides only some limited improvements respect the Air 3: the 1" CMOS (but only on the 24mm camera), the front Lidar and the beacon controller.
No improvements on protocol (O4) and on the range.
From my point of view, an upgrade from the Air 3 is not justified.  Probably an upgrade from the Air 2S can be a good idea. But this is just my POV.

It looks like a great drone to me,  with a reasonable price,  but still too heavy to be useful to me.  Hopefully some of those software features will make it into the next mini 5 drone.

The Air 4 might turn out to be Epic. The Air 3S has some small upgrades to the Air 3 so Air 4 will surely have some nice new features.
