No, here's more detail:
- I was above a layer of fog, low clouds, at 1700 ft. and lost control connection.
- The Phantom went into RTH mode and started descending.
- At about 1400 ft I saw I had connection so I flipped the S1 switch down and up to regain control.
- I continued manually continued the descent, focusing my attention on the altitude.
- At about 1100 ft altitude, I was shocked to see that the Phantom was 2500 ft away from me horizontally.
- I tried to reign it in, but it continued to drift further. Eventually I lost all connection with it.
- I checked 'Find my Phantom' and it indicated a spot 1.7 miles from me.
- I drove and searched that area, and didn't find it.
- Eventually, two weeks later, I found it, and its location was 1000 ft downwind from the ‘Find my Phantom’ location.
So essentially, based only on the ‘Find my Phantom’ data, my Phantom was close (relatively speaking), and downwind from that last known location. BUT! From my home point to the ‘Find my Phantom’ point (1.7 miles) it did not drift with the wind, it was almost perpendicular to it. I can’t explain what happened there, maybe the wind at 1000 ft was at a slightly different angle than the wind on the ground, I just don’t know.
Let me also mention that I’m assuming I didn’t flip the switch all the way up and thus was in atti mode. When I looked at the controller after searching for the drone I noticed it was in atti mode, I don’t know if that’s the way it was at the time the drone drifted away from me, or if I inadvertently flipped it later, but considering what happened, I must have messed up and not flipped the switch all the way up.
