Very impressive Halloween set-up.  Sol-Mo worked great for the torch guy.

There were lots of kids around but they honestly seemed quite 'meh!' about it all.

Even the jump scares didn't seem to spook the kids as much as the adults!

They were walking up to the live characters, like the really quite imposing scary scarecrow guy, and poking him saying "Who are you?!?".

And I overheard one young boy telling his sister (I assume) as we walked through a spooky forrest full of dozens of cat/bat eyes blinking on and off in the trees, "They're just lights!".

Maybe over exposure on YouTube and TicTok etc has desensitized these kids, but it seemed that the magic had been lost on many of them.

Spooky little Hallowe'en sequence   You nailed it with the SloMo of the fire guy.

Seemed like a good oportunity to give that a go.

I find it a bit odd to use, to be honest though.

Slow motion mode is 'kinda slow', but to use Super Slow Motion you have to film in Video mode at 100fps or above.

So I shot in 120fps.

Then while previewing the clip incamera you have to tap the Snail icon where you want Super Slow Motion to start. You effectively mark teh inpoint, but it seems like you don't mark the outpoint - the camera just starts interpolating from that point on until it has created a 17 second (?) section of super-slo-mo.

When you export that video clip from the camera it has the super-slo-mo section (which is understandably mute) spliced in place. To get the original clip back it seems you need to delete the sup-slo-mo sections in camera and re-export the clip. (I assume the original clip is retrievable if you plug the camera into a computer and just look in the folders, but in the Mimo app galery it seems that its only the clip with the super-slo-mo that is available. I will take a look directly at the camera storage at some point to check).

But, yeah. The fire guy came out pretty good especially considering the lighting.

Very impressive Halloween set-up.  Sol-Mo worked great for the torch guy.

They've done a Christmas lights thing every year for a few years now and apparently they employed the same company to do this this year for the first time.

It was really very well done. Could possibly have done with more live characters the night we were there, but looking at clips on YouTube it seems there were other characters roaming on other nights.

I seem to remember seeing that a division of Sony have something to do with it, but I could be wrong.

Sounds like a rather clunky operation in-camera maybe easier on the PC

Yup, I would normally do the edit on the PC, but wanted to give the hardware a try seeings as it's a feature they are pushing in the advertising.

I even did the edit in Lightcut on a tablet to fully avoid the PC for this one. (And that had it's own problems such as Fonts not loading properly).

I have a lot more footage to use, so one day I might get aroudn to doing a proper cut on the PC - but another couple of Lightcut quick edits are in the works already.

NT = National Trust.

Ah, that's why it didn't register.

Kew isn't owned by the NT, but none of this was drone shot anyway and they were actually encouraging people to photo, film and share.

I seem to recall checking in the past and they don't permit drones from the gardens themselves, but looking on Drone Assist it looks like flight from adjacent public land would be doable with a sub-250 (it's in the London CTR but not an FRZ), though I'm not sure what you'd see as it's a big area.

There was one of those auditors went there and told them he was going to fly over from outside,   this guy does this a lot to the NT to make content for YT,  they got so offended they told him that you couldnt film inside or even run it was all banned.

Hmmmm, those 'auditors' are not really the friends of drones, are they?

Although, I have seen a couple of videos recently where at least the police seem to be more educated on drone laws - are the 'auditors' videos partly responsible for that education? Maybe?

That said, it always seems to me that 'auditors' are there to provoke for clicks and views more than anything else.

I've only ever had one person be unhappy about my drone flying and they were a lot more understanding when I explained what I was doing. I was disturbing her peaceful knitting outside of her front door - shooting a very nice church in a valley oposite her home - I explained that I could not resist photographing and filming the church as I was driving through and saw that it was such a pretty setting. She then seemed quite proud of that and her attitude softened a lot!

As for Kew, I guess they see videoing this event as free promotion as well so encouraging photos and videos is not an altruistic move.

Agreed,  they give us a bad name,   I tend not to give them the views but catch the comments for a few that peak some interest.

Same here. Try not to watch 'em but occasionally get drawn in by something - then feel guilty for encouraging them!
