I open a new thread about this topic because i think that it deserves it.

When i first used the Action 5 i noticed the Dual Audio settings in the wireless microphones configuration section. I initially didn't give it much attention but now i find this switch like a mistery. Talking with some users it looks like everyone has a different explanation of the setting. The reality is that i've yet to understand its meaning.
Allow me a brief recap of all tests i performed:
  • Internal mics backup ON/OFF in main configuration menu
  • Stereo ON/OFF in audio Pro settings
  • Dual Audio ON/OFF in wireless mics settings
  • All combinations of the three settings
While the first two settings are straightforward and effectively change the behaviour of the camera, the Dual Audio seems doing absolutely nothing when changed.
It doesn't change the behaviour of single or double wireless microphones, i tried recording clips with single microphone, double microphones, connecting one and/or two microphones while recording but in all cases the behaviour is:
  • with single microphone the audio is copied on both left and right channels on the clip audio
  • adding a second mic the original mic shifts to a single stereo channel and the new mic goes to the other stereo channel (if Stereo is set under Pro audio settings)
There is no new WAV file created for external microphones. The setting is just (apparently) useless.

The user manual didn't mention the setting and i found nothing searching on the internet.

Is it possible for a DJI representative to explain the meaning of such Dual Audio switch under Wireless Microphones settings?

The Dual Audio Setting switches on the internal recording of the DJI Mic 2 transmitter. With the 32Bit setting on or off you can choose whether the recording is saved in 24Bit or 32Bit. The audio track must be pulled directly from the DJI Mic 2 transmitter using a USB-C cable.

Ah, so instead of having to press ‘record’ it goes automatically! That makes sense.

Really, the term ‘Dual Audio’ is misleading. It means ‘Duplicate Audio on Mic Transmitter'.

Actually ‘mic 2 internal recording’ would be much better naming. Standard language/naming that is consistent would be very sensible moving forward even ‘mic2 dual recording’ would be more logical.

Now It makes sense thank you.
I must admit that "Dual Audio" is vague and misleading. Anyway, good to know.
I searched the same feature in the Pocket 3 but there is not. If I recall well, with Pocket 3 the "Dual Audio" must be enabled in the external Mic2 receiver settings so with Action 5 we have more flexibility. Great.

Hi!

Does that mean that the audio on the video file is not the same as that recorded internally by the DJI Mic 2? I thought that with the "Dual Audio" feature the underlying audio on the video (what could be extracted from the MP4) would be identical to that on the transmitter and that the backup WAV created by the camera is recorded from its internal microphone.

The camera records always 16 bit (the signal coming from the mic2) while the mic2 internal recording is 32 bit.
