I saw the P3P advertised on a 'Sears' website here: Phantom 3 Professional at Sears

In the description, it says that it has a 3X digital zoom.

I have never heard that, nor have I seen any sign of it or any way to use it.

Does this exist, or is that a typo on their page?

No digital zoom, but by using the camera as 4k, you get more information captured than what you got using the Advanced at 1080P. This would equate to a 3X better resolution.

The phantom cameras are zoom capable just has not been activated via software as yet.I remember seeing an extracted firmware binfile and seeing that it had zoom capability's.

That is correct. It is disabled in the firmware.

I am betting there is zero chance of them enabling it.

Think of the ammo those "that-drone-is-spying-on-me" people would have if zoom was enabled.

Well the firmware does have text like this in it... I'm no programmer so could mean something else. Can only wait and see what DJI have in store..

Digital zoom will give you nothing in that matter, you can also zoom the same way in photoshop or other software form photo.
Digital zoom is a crop.

However, in my opinion digital zoom would be helpful in work. There should be 3-5x factor.

I don't need it, and wouldn't use it anyway unless it was optical zoom. I already shoot in 4K and do most of my editing in 1080p, so I have used that to get in closer without any loss of resolution. I also use it to crop out prop shots.

I was just curious as to how that got listed as a feature in a sales pitch. Good price, by the way, if you go back to that link.

@FlyGirl - That is an impressive camera that can take such a high resolution image. I'm guessing it is not on a drone, however. That's a lot of zoom

ya, I know. but I would rather be able to do it in real time. I'm not a professional photographer, just like to fly for fun. I also prefer to spend more time flying and less time in front of the computer if possible.

I would think flying, controlling the camera AND zoom is almost a 3 man job. Better doing it on the computer

You have 100x zoom if you want it

shouldn't be too difficult of a task for one person while in a hover. I could see it being more difficult while on the move
