The battery in our mini 4 pro is getting very hot while I am sat here indoors trying to investigate the settings menu to sort out another problem. It's not really doing anything other than talikng to the controller.
Is this normal? It just seems a waste of all that energy that takes long enough to charge up anyway.
Thank you.

Hi moth,

Thank You for reaching out. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing. Is the heating is after flying, during storage or during charging? Is the battery firmware is updated as well? Please send us a video recording of the problem. This will allow us to investigate further and provide you with the most accurate solution based on the specific issue you're encountering.

We are looking forward to your response for further assistance. Thank You

It's by design since it has no cooling fan to reduce weight. It needs to be in flight to stay cool or it eventually goes into an energy saving mode... you can read about it at https://support.dji.com/help/con ... ;paperDocType=paper

Put a fan on it when it's on for more than a couple of minutes, like when doing what you did or updating hardware.

Its not battery getting hot. Its main board getting hot and heats the battery the temperature which you can see in your remote . the drone doesnd have active cooling system . only passive . so while working drone getting quite hot .

It's OK. Mine has sat for 15 minutes while I go through settings. It enters an ECO mode after 3 or 5 minutes, and as far as I can tell, the heat isn't to the point it will damage anything.

If you're worried, sit a fan in front of the aircraft as if it is flying forwards, and it should help reduce the temperature.

If you want to fly after you've done this, I suggest switching it off for a few minutes and remove the battery and let it cool down before you go and fly.

This wasn't when doing any of the things you list but when the controller and drone were both switched on in order to investigate some flight safety settings. Then I left it on while I looked at some of the manual etc and when I came to put it away the batery was hot.

You will find it's the top of the battery getting hot, not the core. It should cool down rapidly if you take it out

Thank You for the confirmation. Please take note, DJI Mini series are designed without a built-in fan, which can effectively reduce power consumption to make the flight time longer. Additionally, the new structural design with propellers that have been adjusted for a more aerodynamic flight, which allows the drone to use the wind generated by the propellers to dissipate heat, ensuring good heat dissipation effects during the flight.
If the drone stays in standby mode for a long time, its temperature may continuously rise.

DJI Mini drones come with a built-in temperature control system that the drone can detect the current temperature and decide whether to automatically power off to prevent overheating.

If the room temperature is high, or during the operations like transferring files, firmware updating, Quick Transfer, etc., the power consumption of the drone will increase, resulting in more serious heating, so the standby time will be shorter. It is recommended to refer to the App's prompts to shut down and cool down, or use other physical methods to reduce the temperature of the aircraft, such as fans or air conditioners.

If the drone is at normal room temperature within 5 minutes after cooling down and powering on, it prompts "Aircraft Overheated" and then automatically shut down. It is recommended to send it back for further diagnosis. Otherwise, rest assured, your DJI Mini 4 Pro is in good condition.

I did a test of this yesterday while trying to figure out the GPS issue, and sat outside in breezy conditions it never entered ECO mode while sat without the props running.

The aircraft was cool, so clearly the wind and reduced ambient temperature was sufficient. It was sat like this for nearly 20 minutes.
