I'm beginning to wonder.... is it just me and technology?

It's got to the point where I dread having to use Mimo because it plays up so often. After I read  this morning about the update for the new mic I went to Mimo. It booted up and downloaded the firmware. It stopped at 50% and then told me to connect the camera. I connected and as usual.... Mimo told me that Mimo was in playback mode. (It wasn't) So I switched to camera mode, Mimo connected but the update refused to load onto the camera and eventually I got an error code 0x0003F447.

I was using the IPad which doesn't normally play up too much. That's why I use it.

Tried again .... same thing.

Went to my phone. It linked but no update around.

Reset my camera. Deleted Mimo and re downloaded from Apple. Linked to camera. The app then told me that there was an update... it downloaded it again and then failed to send it to the camera. I turned everything off again, started afresh and suddenly, the update shot across to my camera.

I wish that we didn't have to go through this nonsense with Mimo. Once we've registered (why?) why are we forced to use this app for updates? Why can't we just download the update from DJI while logged in and place it in the root of the sd card like we can with GoPros.

Honestly, I now dread using the Mimo app because it's too flaky, even on an IPad and we have to use it for these updates which can be, frankly, painful. If I didn't need the update I would have deleted Mimo a long time ago. It is a terrible piece of software and DJI need to perhaps update it or at least allow us to avoid it once we've registered since they insist that we do.

I know I'm not the only one because there are often posts on here about troubles connecting to Mimo. I have no confidence in it as a piece of software because I'm so used to it playing up. Why can't we have downloadable updates to load onto our sd card?

Total time wasted on this stupid piece of software ..... 1 hour. Ridiculous. You make some great cameras .... ALL let down by a seriously poor piece of software. Improving Mimo or dumping it would be a serious upgrade to so many cameras that you make.

A suggestion for you to ignore ..... we buy the camera. If we want to update, then we visit DJI and register for updates. Download the update and put into the root of our sd card. If we want to, we could even roll back if you left all updates there. No Mimo. Everyone's happy. You get your registration and we get our update with no daft software.
Those that use the software for monitoring/editing can continue to use it if it's not playing up.

Mimo is an awful piece of software that needs a serious update to the way that it works or DJI need to supply direct downloads for updates so that we can avoid the painful process of using such an awful app.

Agree. It is a far simpler and more reliable method. There are so many different 'phones, network and wi-fi connections themselves can sometimes be unreliable, etc. It is so much easier to have a BIN file in the root directory of a card and just click 'Update'.

Hi lancraig10,
We are truly sorry for the inconvenience you are experiencing.

Thank you. Sorry I was so frustrated, but problems with the software seem to randomly appear and fix themselves after doing boot ups, reloading etc.

The problem is that it’s central to all of the cameras so affects every one of them!

Maybe DJI will  grant permission  privately through email communications on manual firmware,  regards FISH

It really is an awful piece of software that desperately needs an overhaul.

Agree with you. I am not happy how they simply let things slide

Mimo is not the best software. I had a lot of problems with my old phone when I had Action 3, but with new phone and Action 4/5 I have had no problem. On the other hand, I had trouble with DJI Fly app on my new phone and haven't tried it since August.

I think when updating FW your device needs to be more than 50% charged or it remains slow . Not 100% on this but I would have always have device charged fully before updating.

Thanks. Yes it was charged. Fresh battery was in the camera. The problems I get are basically getting it to connect or connection fails when it tries to transfer the update to the camera. So it’s connected and then the update won’t go. After  the update has been downloaded, it’s stored (I think) on the device and no longer registered to be downloaded from DJI. So I can’t start again and the device won't send it.

And so it goes on. That’s why I dread using it. Both my phone and IPad have become more reliable at using it to monitor since it was updated, but firmware updates ....…

Anyway, to cure it, I just deleted Mimo. Cleared caches etc. re-downloaded the Mimo app and started again, renewing connection to the camera.

Then it saw the firmware again and automatically went off and sorted it for me.

I’ve had so many difficulties with the app over the years that I’ve really grown to dread using it; especially for updates.

TBH, I’d rather register online and download the update manually myself so at least I know that I have the file.

Actually, I never discussed it here, but I had a problem registering my Action 5 and I saw that Big Plumbs had the same issue in his video. I had that happen to me as well.

I think really, it needs a tweak. I’ve never known a software to work one time and then play up another time like this does. I haven’t a clue what’s going on with it.

The issue with updates is it requires the camera Wi-Fi connection which is fine if you have a mobile data connection but if not the updates process is a complete mare.  I found the easiest option to connect the camera via the app on the phone & use mobile data to download the fw update. Really is time to stop all this proprietary crap just provide the bin file so it can be done via sdcard or cable.  Mimo only gets opened for this purpose nothing else.

I think that’s exactly what is happening. No mobile connection so the update has to come down separately before I connect to the camera. Then when I connect the camera, the wifi connection to the internet is lost.

I use my mobile phone via wifi because where I live, there is no decent signal so I don’t have a secure wifi signal from my phone or the iPad when it’s connected to Mimo.

The whole business is painful. It is probably the fact that my mobile signal is virtually non existent without wifi connection.
