My first winter flight with the Dji Neo about two weeks ago and it worked well in low temperatures of minus 5 with a light covering of snow and I was impressed with the 4k video. Since then I've had some fun with it sking in a storm and finding some of it's limitations with Direction Track and Palm Landing in low light and snow, see my other recent Youtube videos! :-)

Great test, I'm off to Tromso shortly and was wondering how the Neo would cope. Your video has shown it is more than capable, thank you.

Hi Ron59,

Thank you for sharing your impressive video with information. When hovering on smooth surfaces such as water or snow, drifting may occur. DJI Neo is light and compact, and relies heavily on its vision positioning system for stable flight, especially in environments with no or weak GPS signals. Vision positioning is highly dependent on ambient light and ground textures. In low-light conditions or areas with plain and uniform ground textures, the drone may not be able to hover stably. Therefore, we recommend that you shoot using DJI Neo in environments with ample light and distinct ground patterns. DJI Neo also is not waterproof. Please do not fly in adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, or heavy fog.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our support team. Thank You!

Looks great. Just make sure to keep your batteries warm before you fly.

Problem with flying in Tromso is likely to be the lack of any natural daylight in December! I'd be interested to hear how it performs!

The sun is n't visble till late January, but there is daylight for a couple of hours. The snow on the ground/mountains reflects a lot of light. The great thing about the Neo is it's small size and weight. I'll be taking a Mini4pro aswell. I have been many times before at that time of year.

Wind and snow fall is my biggest bug bear.

Yes, the Neo can handle snow, but its performance depends on the tire type and depth of snow. Consider snow-specific tires for better traction.

Just like the car then, two sets of tyres are a must, Summer and Studded winter for the snow & ice.

We had a significant snow event. I was out clearing the walkway. I launched Neo to do a circle vid. It completed the circle but, it would not land. I held out my hand and it ignored that. It was hovering too high for me to grab it. I finally had to either wait for the battery to force a landing--or--grab the controlling phone. I choose the latter. Powered on the phone, connected and ordered a landing.

I assume it couldn't distinguish the height over snow. Like the lyric from Counting Crows song Round Here, "No one notices the contrast of white on white."

I found the problem. I have been waring a jacket which is close in color to my hand. It appears Neo cannot distinguish my hand from the jacket. I.e., it does not know my hand is out.

Conditions one day were heavy overcast, snow-covered ground, very flat lighting. Zero wind. Air temp just above freezing.  Using the FVP RC3 in S mode.  No issues flying in the open areas.  250 meter long driveway has a canopy of tree branches over it.  Snowpacked surface covering the gravel driveway.  Flew down to the mailbox skimming the surface at 0.2 to 0.5 meter altitude.  The limits of video and radio signal.  No issue.  Flying back. The dreaded red box warning. No satellites and no visual sensor.  Just a brief moment before the red warning box disappeared. No autonomous crash mode like indoors flying into to dark areas.
