Great and interesting shots, thanks for the post. Now, as others are asking, what was the Temp. and hoe did the Phantom and Battery perform? I would have to say that your experience with that Temp. is far colder than any of us would fly in.

Brrrr!  Definitely a place where you'd need a ND filter to cut down the light.  Being that far North do you ever have a problem calibrating your compass or getting a enough satellites for a good GPS lock?

BTW, did someone use a snowblower to make a resolution target in that 2nd photo?

When you say you can't do the cool new stuff because of your location what functions do you mean. I live in Rankin Inlet Nunavut just a little north east of you and I am thinking of getting the Phantom 3 and I was wondering what some of the limitations might be.

Thanks

Hey Peter it is because I'm more north then magnetic north, there should be no issue for your location

That's not what an ND filter is for. You don't need an ND filter for photos. You can adjust the camera for lighting conditions.

Please save your money by ignoring this wrong information on ND filters. There is an epidemic of incorrect usage of these things.

If you are only taking photos ND filters are completely unnecessary as you can make exposure adjustments with the camera.

Since the Phantom has a fixed aperture, ND filters are used to reduce light in videos where you want to achieve a "cinematic" motion blur effect by having your shutter speed at 2X the frame rate, e.g. 1/60th of a second at 30fps. Motion blur is a matter of preference. I often prefer videos without it. You may need an ND filter on a very bright day. If your video shutter speed is too high you may get the jello effect which is unpleasant to watch.

For photos, just adjust the camera shutter speed up or down to get the exposure you want .

I think your photos look great.
