I wonder if you also didnt watch in HDR,   in just 4k mode YouTube does make it a little dull.

If its HDR the icon should say HDR instead of 4K  like this

I just tried it on a machine that doesn't support HDR and it was dark like this and the cog was void of any HDR or 4K.

I think the the no HDR10 display detected might be the clue.     The other way you can tell is when it's playing right click and select stats for nerds and the color space will be rec709 for normal or bt2020 for HDR.  Seems I have to give you tube some help in making the sdr version not as dark.

Yeah this laptop is about 5 years old.
I may try it on Mrs.B's which is last year's model.

I watched it in the forum's window and then tried it on YT directly but not in full screen.

If I open up the laptop I see the HDR icon but it's not very light either. Even in full screen and at full brightness.
I sometimes saw an HDR video on other channels but I must confess that I'm not a huge fan...

I think they want to have real names on personal profiles.
Otherwise you need an artist / company etc. account. Not sure how that is called.

One advice thing was to change to a professional account which I tried and that didnt help either.
