Caught up with Tamneymore Farms with some winter feeding as the freezing fog was moving in...

With 250 cows going through the parlour we catch up as the cows get fed coming out of the 1pm milking and the dry cows are getting fed with the Demo Faresin PF2.18 Plus from Edgewater Plant.

Up front we have the 7S.190 Massey Ferguon wth the JCB 435 filling the diet feeder, with a mix of straw hay meal vitamins and silage fed into the feeder mixed and then fed using the front auger on the feeder allowing for feeding left and right

Lovely close-up visuals at the mixer.    Just wondering if you had the camera mounted or was that done free hand?  Those dairy cows were not the least bashful at feeding time.  It kind of reminded me of chow call on an aircraft carrier when all of a sudden there are hundreds of sailors in the chow line.  Great job on this video.

Hey, at least you gave it a good try.

Sailors do fuss about chow, especially when you run out of fresh fruit and veggies.  Powdered milk  and eggs are not the tastiest meal to start the day.

One of the least popular meals on the ship was chipped beef.  We generally referred to it by the dysphemism "... On a Shingle" or "S.O.S." (When visitors were onboard we politely used the SOS acronym and when asked what that meant we said "Same Old Stuff.").

Visitors usually got a kick out of it.  Of course the crew was not happy with too many repeats of SOS for a meal.  I do have to admit that at most times we did eat pretty well.  At one port visit we took on 3,500 pounds of ice cream and had a flight deck party following flight operations one hot afternoon.  Sounds like a lot of ice cream but with 4,800 people onboard it was gone quickly.

On average, to prepare the 17,000 meals per day, it takes anywhere from $45,000 to $65,000 per day of groceries. This includes over 1500 pounds of chicken to supply a main protein dish for each sailor. If they want to serve up a salad, they need at least 350 pounds of lettuce, not to mention things to go on the lettuce. For the necessity of life, aka coffee, the kitchen prepares 20,000 cups of coffee and around 160 gallons of milk for those who like milk with their brew.

Supply ships bring the goods and ingredients to the carrier every week or two, typically dropping off 500,000 to one million pounds of food with every trip.  How would you like to pay that grocery bill?

Here's a saying that I saw posted at the local feed store that you might appreciate- "The farmer is the only man in our economy who buys everything at retail, sells everything at wholesale, and pays the freight both ways."
