I'm wondering why you wouldn't be able to get audio with video from the Mini 3.  Filters for the rotor noise would be fairly easy to sample and cancel out.  Same with wind noise.

I doubt any other sounds would get recorded over the prop noise.

Noise cancelling microphones are wonderful.  They can filter out cabin noise from helicopters and other aircraft, and still pick up a conversation.
I saw an article in Popular Science a (long) while back, where they installed a microphone and speaker system on a lawn mower.  The system recorded and inverted the sound at the same noise level, cancelling out the noise of the mower.
The same thing gets done when using Noise cancelling headphones, but instead of piping the inverted noise out, they simply delete that audio.

I've seen others mount go-pro's to their drones to get video.  I wonder if they are turning off the microphone or if they filter out the rotor noise.

Crack on fella, let us know how it goes and how much weight it adds.

Two small microphones added to the video processor.  One to sample the ambient noises to be filtered out.  One for picking up and posting to the video itself.  You're literally looking at 1/8 to 1/4 gram of added weight.  The onboard computer is already there with more processor capability than all of NASA in the 60's and 70's.

Filtering out background noise to make a human conversation clear is one thing, getting a high-quality recording of ambient sounds (which could be very faint) with a noise source so close to the microphone is another. I agree it would be nice, though, and I also agree that weight & processing power would not be an issue.

I still dont see how useful or productive it would be,  being 100ft away from some quiet sound like some water running vs screwing props within inches of the microphone.      Very different to a conversation inside a cabin.

100%.. Having it available for people to choose to use it or not would be nice.  I do competitive shooting and have my drone take video of me while shooting.  When I've shared my videos, the most confusing part to some people is that there's no audio.

The usefulness of this feature would be quite different from one person to another.  I see what you're saying though.  I am not really interested in getting video (and audio) from something 100 ft away.  I film myself shooting with the drone and when sharing the video without audio seems confusing to some people.

If you use the Neo and their app it will record the audio for you and add it to the video,   but the drone doesnt record the audio,  the app on the phone does.

Super, thanks for the info.  My buddy struggled to fly manually with the phone app and so I decided to get the RC2 controller for mine.  Much better flying experience, but of course it doesn't record as the phone app would.
I'll continue to fly without audio.
I might start filming myself shooting again with a small camera on my hat again.  overlay and sync the videos and I'll have proper audio.

Now to get the follow-me to work effectively.. or teach others to fly it too.
