Following this post about the new QR prop locks and I am  not convinced, too me they look wrong?. step 1, attach prop, step 2 turn locking plate to secure prop. sounds ok so far but, and this is my thinking, once in the lock position and the props spin up the only thing stopping the locking ring unlocking is the spring plate, would the design not have been better if it locked by turning the locking ring the oposite way, i.e. so to unlock it would have to move in the direction of the rotating blade?.

I thought that too, then I thought about the original system.  They were coming loose during deceleration of the motors.  Seems that the deceleration may be more violent than the acceleration.

Is anyone else having an issue with acquiring the new props and adapters directly from DJI? I put in an order two weeks ago when it said 1-3 business days to ship when I placed the order. They still haven't shipped and DJI keeps telling they are going to ship on a certain day and then that day passes. Any insight would be appreciated as this is rather frustrating.  Thanks in advance.

I just installed the new 1345T prop locks on my inspire 1 and will do my test flight tomorrow in my local park. Everything looks and feel tight. For me this is a upgrade from the 1345S quick release prop locks of several months ago, let's see what comes next.
I think these are well worth the small expense and added safety .

To be honest, I received my Loctite 243 from Amazon and the weather has been awful. I have everything now to complete the switch over... but not finished it yet. I will use the 243 Loctite as instructed very carefully,

Christmas and my work has kept me pretty busy and with the bad weather, I am not in a hurry

The screws had plenty of blue thread lock on them.  And just FYI there is an extra screw with each mount.  So when you get done, you  will have 4 spare screws.

What I can't understand here is why you need to use extra Loctitie on the screws, if the screws come with it already.

Rich,

From my past, the MOD in the UK use to use loctite, but they also sometimes required locking nuts to be used, which had a nylon washer within the nut so as when a bolt was threaded into the nut the nylon washer prevented it coming loose due to vibrations.  I wonder if a combination of these could be am option going forward.

Sounds like a good suggestion GB

I am not sure there is enough clearance inside the motor attachment plate. I like the thought of a mechanical lock.

See this new video at 1:06.

Folks,

I just installed my 1345T Props on my Inspire 1.  I noticed 3 things:

1. When I turn the retaining ring without the props installed I do hear a "Click" as the video indicated.
2. If I install the props as directed by the video, and then turn the retaining ring I do not hear a "Click" as the video indicated.
3. I do also feel a minute and I mean minute play in the prop when holding the motor.  If I had to estimate it would be as small as a 1/64" play.

Is this normal?  Has anyone observed this activity after installation?   I want to check before I actually use these props on a flight.

Folks,

I just installed my 1345T Props on my Inspire 1.  I noticed 3 things:

There may be a tiny amount of play and that is fine. The video states you should hear a click when locking them on. As long as you can feel it lock you should be fine.

As long as the correct version of loctite is used, should not be an issue. As you'll be aware there are some grades that will permanently lock those bolts in place! I don't think that a separate locking nut (nyloc or similar) could be made to fit the Inspire motors, not much space inside the housings.

IMHO, the original self tightening props with locks is a great system and what I have used from day 1. When I run out of spares I'll bypass the 'S' system and move to the 'T' arrangement.

Loctite is great stuff, learned all about it soon after rebuilding my first motorcycle engine when I hadn't known to put some on the cam sprocket retaining bolts. The result when the bolts loosened at approx 9000rpm is best described as 'unfortunate'.

Hello GB
If you mind your P's & Q's then you should never need to switch over to the new props... unless they wear out or get over 150 flights.  I too never had any problems with the original props but I really like the QR style adaptors.

I had to leave unexcitedly on another trip back east....  I hope to be flying my new "T" style props soon.

Installed the new  "T" prop system and everything is working great. I noticed a small amount of play but not much. The locks work very nicely and very easy to use. I would recommend these to all Inspire 1 owners that are nervous using the original QR props or ready for change.

After I took my QR hubs off the motors I inspected them with a magnifier and they were just as if they were new. No wear or marks of any kind. The cap head screws came off with some force and I was pretty happy with the findings.  So if you are using these old version QR props don't worry to much about them. Just keep them on your check list and inspect them for problems.

Yes, they are awesome easy to use!! I just flew a 13 minute flight in 40*F draining the battery to about 19%.  They worked perfectly and the video is smooth (same as before).  I would encourage other Inspire owners to use the new style "T" props when they can.
PS; I lightly used the 243 Loctite for my installation. The screws have Loctite on them, but I did not want to take any chances. Put a small drop on a toothpick and put it right into the motor threaded hole. No excess anywhere and then installed the new hubs until tight. (no torque value given by DJI)

totally a sweet ride.

Hi Rich,

I recently installed these new locking props on my Inspire 1, but I did not use any extra loctite 243 threadlocker.

I just bought some from Amazon.

Can I still disassemble the new locks, apply the threadlocker and reinstall or do i need to buy new prop locks again?

Just trying to make sure.

Any help is appreciated.

I see no reason why you could not reuse the hubs and screws. Maybe Ken could comment on this too. There was a lot of discussion on why we need to use the Loctite 243 when the screws already had thread lock on them. I decided that it was a good idea to put a very small amount inside the screw hole in the motor that would insure I got the job done.

Honestly this is probably overkill... but easy enough to do.  So my answer is (okay to reuse the hubs) be careful and clean the screws and use the Loctite 243 sparingly.

before you start check the props and hubs, are they tight? maybe just leave well enough alone!
