That is always the case.
I never pay much attention to these pro reviewers, it's hard to be unbiased when you get something for 'free' (they do have to pay duties often).
But they thrive by getting a constant stream of new products, so they will be mindfull of what they are saying more than 'regular' people.
Plus, they are often quite skilled and have a lot of experience in cinematics plus editing capacity, so they can make something great with a mediocre product anyway.

I didn't now they got stung the duty on the freebies.

TMBK this is seen as income, so they have to pay taxes for that.
Plus custom duties.
Some youtubers talked about it because people called them 'chills' (nice people......)

In music gear area, probably not.
There is just a handful that have enough views for that.
And sponsorships are quite rare.
