I recently noticed the dreaded stress cracks on both rear arms of my phantom 3 pro.
So I decided to take the opportunity to improve visibility in the sky by dyeing the replacement shell.
The shell took two attempts to get the desired color, the landing gear didn't really take the dye well and the props came out purple not blue ,
but overall I'm pretty happy with the result.

I used Idye polly ,orange.
I had to dye the shell twice to get the color dark enough using two packets on the second attempt. I left the the shell in the dye for 30 minutes both times.

How many flights did you have before cracking?

It stands out quite well against the clouds , Ive only had the chance to do one test flight so far.

So I spent a little time doing some preventative maintenance:  super carbon skin and strong arms - ready set go!!

It looks as though DJI has modified the arms slightly in the new shells but i wouldnt mind putting a set of the strong arms on to prevent having to do this again. Do you have a link to them ?

Thanks to all of you who contributed to this link.  Being very new to drones and starting out with the Phantom 3 Pro, I now know to watch out for stress cracks and what to do.  
By the way, the carbon fiber skin looks bad @ss!

Is it Phantom 4 ????? hehehhe...... Original white color is quite difficult to spot when P3 is far or in front of cloud....
Paint may need skill, but skin can be consider..... I will get one.

As nice as the skins look,  I'd rather have a completely carbon fiber shell.

It's a "carbon fibre gimbal protector for Phantom 3", just a couple of bucks on ebay.

Yeah, that reinforced skin doesn't help when it drops out of the sky. Been there! Now I keep it original.

Only problem with the gimbal guards is that there's evidence that suggests they cause altitude problems and perhaps even motor cut out by interfering with the ultrasonic sensors. The original post is almost a year and a half old. And 'about' a year ago stories appeared about yo-yo effects in altitude etc.

It looks awesome!!!!! Love the yellow/orange!!! So how is the dye holding up? Does it have an odor? How permanent is it?
