A Cock Shot for @Montfrooij




Carrying on from his theme the other day,  this cock was apparantly restored on a TV show,   at least thats what @Blériot53 told me.

It’s a church.   It’s seems common in Europe to do this.  I don’t know why.

Seems odd as here you only find them on top of barns.  

I just did a little goggling and found this....

Historically many Protestant churches in Europe placed a rooster atop their steeples to distinguish them from Catholic Churches. The rooster has been a Christian symbol since God used it to show the weakness of man with Peter and the triumph of Christ in the resurrection.

Also there was this....

Around 600 A.D that Pope Gregory I declared that the rooster, with its symbolism of Christ's passion, was the most suitable emblem for Christianity. As such, the first cockerels began to appear on top of weathervanes, later being fitted to the top of every Christian church steeple.

No,  there's nothing local to St.Margarets,  it was built in a very odd place,    and sadly just vandalised badly,  some people took spades to the stained glass windows to get inside.   They did a lot of damage and gained nothing from it.

It's a disgrace really,.  


This is the one you saw on TV being restored that then took about 2 years to be reinstalled.

Same here,   spent most of the day out yesterday,  including a visit for the venue for my July art exhibition,.     the coffee/wine bar owner is really keen.   Which was really nice.
