I have the Flip coming. I heard that the Flip is capable to transmit remotte ID with a firmware update, as it is able to in other countries.  Does anyone have any info on this? I'm  hopping that it will eventually be turned on to keep it under 250 gr (no strap on module) and Cat 1 capable.

Hi there, thank you for reaching out. Kindly take note that DJI Flip does not support Remote ID.

Thank you!

In the USA to use the drone for commercial purposes (pictures) a remote ID is required. I am hoping that there is a possibility that it can be accomplished without adding an external remote ID module, thus increasing the weight to over 250 grams and taking the Flip out of Category 1.

Id buy a better drone if you want to do commercial work.  This is very much a budget entry level model.

I do have better drones. I have been doing real estate photography for 3 years. I just want this for interior high work, since the camera is good and it has an SD card, as well as the built-in prop guards. But I'd like to also be able to use it for exterior work when able. and that will require remote ID.

In the U.S. a drone under 250g with prop guards can be operated over people, as long as it is transmitting remote ID. Not having it is a missed opportunity for these types of scenarios.

In the initial review yesterday of the Flip by the Pilot Institute, they said that with the beta model they received to review, before they changed the drone to the US configuration, it could broadcast remote ID, so they know it could do it. But I can not find anything to back this up. I am hoping this is the case and that we eventually get this changed!

I saw the same thing. There was a launch video on the Flip I was watching where the user had the wrong country configured for their test unit and it had Remote ID was enabled. When the current country was selected, it was disabled. I don't recall what country the video originated from. Maybe it was a Pilot Institute video. So yes, it has Remote ID built in. Whether it's enabled depends on the country. Someone in another thread got confirmtion from DJI Support that the Flip has Remote ID. Pilot Institute is a pretty trustworthy source. Greg knows his stuff when it comes to drones.

Aboute the RemoteID Feud, there is another group of people who are target consumers but the absense of Remote ID cut us out: International travellers! The drone is marketed as for the "vlogger" niche and as a traveller's drone, it will the perfect as is sub-250gr, has ducted propellers and basicaly the same photo/video quality as the Mini4Pro, but, FAA require that any foreigner must have RemoteID or be limited to fly in one of the few FRIA avaliable in the US.
I'm a foreigner with a planned visit the Rocky Mountains in the next summer and as FAA requires RemoteID to me, even if the drone is bellow the 250gr limit as I'm not a US resident, I just cant use it during my trip, even as a selfie drone
