Both the Neo and the Flip are much more robust than I thought given that I spent the afternoon trying to dislodge the Flip which was stuck 15 metres up  in a tree by using the Neo in FPV mode and the Flip for target practise! In the end my chainsaw came to the rescue as the Flip’s propeller motor was  completely rapped up in a thin branch which I couldn’t break even when the 20 metre birch tree came crashing down. I thought no way will the Flip have survived but then I noticed it winking at me under the tree and mass of branches. Unbelievably once I cut the branches and remove them from the propeller guards the Flip’s was completely undamaged and the battery still on after well over an hour of blinking!

So you chose a drone over a tree
Wow.
That would be quite hard to do here in NL.
Even if it was on your own land.

I live out in the hills and the silver birch is a bit of a weed and grows everywhere!

As confirmed by the flight log, the Flip just stopped and seemed to lose radio control as I couldn't get it to descend or back out and it eventually got the prop guards tangled in the thin branches. Interestingly I spend a good 20 minutes using the Neo to try and knock it down and it was flying through the branches without getting caught!

Yeah, it's funny to realize how different it is.
You can cut trees here, but not without a permit.
It's not for every species I think, but I'm not sure.
(unless you own a forest, then it's a different story)

Solution #2. Drag a line up over the branch to free the drone.

Yes thought about  lifting a thin line up and round the branch using a bigger drone but seeing how snagged it was when the tree fell it wouldn’t have worked and the other drone would have got stuck without some way of releasing it. Not sure if the wee Neo would be strong enough to lift much though my Air  2 probably would be!

How long would that take and how much would it cost considering the issue was due to losing Wi-Fi despite it only being about  10 metres away and several kilometre from any other Wi-Fi signals or power lines?

Here estate landowners regard trees as crops so your nice wooded view can be cut down overnight without even notifying you. Different to built up areas in town and cities!

The estimated turnaround time for a repair case is 4-5 working days (excluding shipping). The repair fees are determined based on your device's inspection results. If a non-user-caused performance failure occurs within the warranty period, the repair or replacement will be free, depending on the circumstances. For repairs outside the warranty period, DJI will issue a quotation after inspection.
