Its a begining of an idea, more to come.

Update 1: I should have mentioned the details of the picture, i have included the info from the picture, i think the EXIF data is in the picture so you can get the info of how it was shot.
Update 2: The phantom 3 was being controlled by litchi in Orbit mode at 76 feet where i could have the circle perfect for full frame in my camera, and i did it when it reached low battery so it can be all red lights.

Update 3: Added another shot that i think is ok but needs perfection of what looks like stairs.

Ha, Nice idea. That circle is pretty perfect. You can also see how accurate the circle is on the map which means we can do very accurate stuff with the phantom.

Excuse what may seem a dumb question, but I am assuming this is a long exposure of your P3 at night going around a POI?  Please could you confirm that?

(The reason I ask is because my P3 would not come anywhere near maintaining such a constant altitude.)

Hey how did you do that?  Time lapse photo or video?
What is the object that was moving in a straight line and left a trail of small white lights inside the circle of light?
Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,

yes long exposure and in orbit mode, and since you can't achieve such perfection, you are due for a calibration.

It was a long exposure picture on my DSLR, and the that line is an airplane passing at high altitude for the duration of the 32 seconds i made the circle.

Cool Willie W.
Here is one I took with my P2+. ADSL long exposure ( about 8 min. ) Buzzed the phantom in front of the frame. The long line above the tree line on the right side is the ISS.

That was nice ! You did that manually flying? I want to do the same but using waypoints so it would be perfect. Wish i thought about it earlier when it was warm outside, now at night it will be freezing in no time.

Thank you.  I have calibrated many times but my P3 just loses altitude and has been sent in for a warranty repair.

Litchi appears tp be Google only (not iPad) which is sad for me.

I look forward to seeing much more like this.  I suspect you have started a new trend.  Well done!

You can as long as it offers long exposures "BULB" setting which is the shutter stays open for as long as you want it to stay open.

There is plenty of tutorials on stars shooting  at YouTube.

Awesome Willie!  Brings me back to my astrophotography days where I was young and poor.  Made a make-shift camera mount up against my lens of my Celestron N8 telescope.  I practiced stacking 100's and 100's of photo's together to get that "perfect" shot of jupiter!  Wish I still had it.  That brings me to my suggestion of stacking a few dark frames to your final photo above to enhance the background and maybe bring out the stars a bit!  Great job though!!

Nice, I am going to have to try something like this.

Imagine using the mapping software to let the phantom move in the sky in perfect lines and take a long exposure of that while it is a full moon, it is like you put the moon in jail.

Hmmm, might want to patent that idea. Think of this, those of us who can't readily get away from city lights can climb to 400' and astrophotography! To a degree of course.
