I have this annoying error with my brand new DJI Mic Mini. During outdoors recording microphone cuts or crack the audio very easily. This occures especially when I turn my back to the camera (and reciever). Even at distances as short as 7 meters this problem has occurred. Is this a bug or a feature?

Are you using the TX and RX pair or just the Mic Mini going into a camera via Bluetooth?

In either case if you put your body between the transmitter and receiver or camera you have a high risk of losing connectivity, though the receiver is more resistant than say, the Action 4.

In line of sight, the range is fine. Out of line of sight it reduces dramatically.

With a body in between, performance is not great. Try to position the mic so that there is clear line-of-sight without objects in between.

All 2.4G wireless systems can have these issues, but some are worse than others. In my experience the very tiny systems (MIC Mini, Lark M2) are more susceptible than this than say a 'full size' true diversity 2.4G system (for example, the old Audio Technica System 10). Absolute best performance through bodies, walls or in congested wi-fi areas will be with a UHF system, such as the Sennheiser G4.

Anyway, this problem is annoying because I can't fully trust the DJI Mic Mini microphone. I've shot about 4-5 longer outdoor videos (for Youtube) now and EACH of them has had audio issues (cracking) in at least one clip. The biggest problem is that these audio issues only become apparent at home when I'm editing the videos and can therefore, in the worst case, cause me to have to reshoot the entire long video.

Here is an example of that cracking.

Thank you for the video provided. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused. If you face the crack sound, please follow below troubleshooting guideline:

-Connect: Ensure the transmitter and receiver are linked and then connect them separately to the DJI Mimo app via Bluetooth.

-Open App: Launch the DJI Mimo app and navigate to "About Device" to view information.

-Update: Tap the firmware version to download and install the latest version.

*If you have update to the latest firmware, please follow below troubleshooting:

1. Please lower the sound source loudness.
2. Extend the distance between the DJI Mic transmitter and the sound source as appropriate.
3. Decrease the gain of DJI Mic or the camera as appropriate.
4. If you are still experiencing overblown sounds at minimum gain while using the DJI Mic 2, and it's not feasible to lower the sound source loudness or move away from it, I recommend enabling 32-bit Float Internal Recording. This allows you to post-edit the recorded audio before use to improve the sound quality.
5. If the DJI Mic is experiencing burst noise when connected to the camera, please check whether both the receiver and the camera are adhering to the gain settings recommended in the "Instructions on Recommended Gain for Camera Setup" file. Ensuring that these settings are properly configured can help mitigate any noise issues you may be encountering.

LINK: https://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/ ... mera%20Setup-EN.pdf

If the issue is not significantly improved by the above operations, please provide the following information:

1. A video showing the wearing/mounting position of DJI Mic transmitter;
2. A video showing the distance between the DJI Mic transmitter and the sound source;
3. Gain settings of DJI Mic, the camera and other related devices:
4. Original footage of an abnormal video/audio.

Please keep us updated on the outcome of the troubleshooting steps so that we can further assist you if the issue persists. Thank you, and have a good day!

I have DJI Mic Mini.
I use my Oneplus12 as a camera.

Audio cracking and cutting occurs at both short and longer distances (receiver-->transmitter). I have worn the transmitter on my chest, collar, and headgear and the cracking has occurred on all of these. It really doesn't matter if my body blocks the signal or not. There is cracking and cutting in both ways.

The last time I used my DJI Mic Mini, I shot about 25 clips and a total of about 50 minutes. About 2-3 clips were ruined due to cracking and clipping. So not a lot, but those are unpleasant surprises during the editing phase.

Both Tx and Rx are up to date.

Settings I normally use outdoors:
ACN: ON (basic level)
Gain: -12

In this clip, the microphone is on my beanie and the distance to the receiver is about 6 m:

Hi

Don't these videos show how the microphone is mounted either on a beanie or on the chest and at the same time show the distance between the microphone and the sound source???

As I said before Gain is -6 or -12

Sorry about our previous response. Could you please try to adjust (reduce) the amplitude and retrieve the audio information outside the range of the level indicator using audio post-production software.

Does that help me with the DJI Mic Mini?

Even though the problem is with the audio, I want to find out why the problem has occurred in the first place and how it could be fixed. Your suggestion does not fix the actual root cause.
I use an application called inshot for editing and it has quite limited audio editing options. But I think the solution to this is not post-production but finding out why the audio is cracking and breaking in the first place!!!

Do you have any experience with how DJI microphones work with OnePlus phones? So could the problem be a lack of compatibility between the two devices?

Hi there. Currently we do not have any information related to your question. Generally, even if the devices not listed as supported mobile devices, it can also be used if their system versions are the same or later.  It is recommended to go to a nearby outlet (if any) for product testing.
