So got the X5 up and running...until I've got to a message asking me to calibrate the lenses....outdoors.
Any Pro tips on the best way of doing this?
Is this procedure something tha can be redone in case of f-ups...?

btw...attaching the camera was a little of a pain at first...

You want to use something at about 50' away with high contrast to calibrate the focus. Regarding mounting I hold the gimbal into the QR with two fingers and then lock it. I then lock the rear slider into place.

Calibrate focus?
Never heard of a camera (aerial or otherwise) that needed a calibration for focus.
What's the story here?

Thanks Blade.

So that it's to be done while flying?
Is this a procedure that can be done again if the first one it's not successful?

Many DSLRs have a feature to fine tune lenses in case they are focussing either in front of or behind the subject.  When this fine tuning is complete the camera stores the setting and recalls it each time the lens is fitted to the camera.  Looks like this camera, the X5 with interchangeable lenses and focus control, has the same feature to ensure lenses are focussing correctly.

This isn't a case of MFA to fine tune a body to a lens, but a requirement to calibrate before flight. Completely different situation.

I do it on the ground, seems to work the best. Yes you can always calibrate again.

not really.
"50' away from high contrast object...."
I didn't have the chance yet.
What I really want to know is this can be re-done if not done properly.
If YES, where's the option for it.

I am surprised that the image quality is very very soft even with my Olympus 12mm lens.
I feel the pro is not really a step up. especially for the high price tag. I too am confused about how to calibrate the lens.
I own two inspire 1's with X3 to compare the X5 to.

Quotes here say calibrate at 50' when the app clearly states 50 metres (165').

When done with a hi contrast subject at 50 metres the calibration works fine.  I suspect it's more for the app than the camera but in any event I have pin sharp images and zero issues with focus on 15mm, 12mm and 14-42mm including zooming.

Long ago I figured out that lens calibration was very buggy. with the X5.
This is the fault of the machine not mine. I would try to calibrate the lens and it was hit or miss.
It would say infinity was only 16ft in the calibration mode.
I had to do this sometimes 15 to 20 times to get the calibration to say infinity.
Then the touch focus was hit or miss as well. Sometimes touch focus would be out of focus.
This product was a poor design from the start.

Don't bother calibrating the Olympus 12mm in App. Set the lens to manual focus and dial in infinity.

That's the joy of the 12mm, not having to go through the calibration BS.

So you are saying the images are soft and not a pro set up yet in the next sentence your saying you can't understand how to calibrate the lens. I think the fault lies with you and not the system

No not me at all.

Look at what others are saying about lens cal issues and touch focus issues.

I have the same issues as they do.

So it's not me.
