I know I'm not the first... but had to do it this morning. Used my P3P to rescue my Syma quad (that flew out of radio range) from the top of a tree... Doing the antenna mod on the Syma transmitter right now!

i'm also wondering this.  if your rope is double the length of the height of the drone stuck in teh tree, if your rope gets caught in a branch i suppose you still land the phantom.  But this means you're rescuing from a much higher height and it would be more difficult.

The hook was just made from a coat hanger and easily (too easily) bends under pressure... also the string used was thin poly twine.  It was the first thing I noticed walking into my garage.  Looks big in the video, but its not.  It was long though because the oak tree right next to the one my Syma was in, is about 20 feet taller.  I also had the twine tied to a very thin plastic piece on my gimbal saver.  A strong tug would have broken that $10 part, if I really had to.

I've been flying R/C and doing things like this for many many years so I really didn't put much thought into it (and I had to hurry and leave for work!).  I just trusted that it would be okay.  The total time between crashing and getting the Syma out of the tree was maybe 20 mins.

Those ones...are...umm...  I dont remember.  Cheap small ones I use when flying close.  The TX is modded with SMA connectors.

Seems like FOREVER watching you try to get that SYMA down, but doing that in under 3 minutes is impressive!  Nice job.

sorry, is the version that goes between the landing legs and not the one that mounts to the gimbal itself.  They're both, as far as I know, called gimbal savers.  I use both...

It was the raw video from my P3 uploaded from my phone (OTG card reader) on my way to work.  I then added one of youtubes crappy free audio tracks...

I wasn't going to spend any real time editing it.
