Unreliable - is it just me?

I ditched GoPro because it was unreliable and switched to Action 5 hoping for a better experience. I'm finding though that even the A5 will stop recording randomly and sometime won't turn on until I remove and replace the battery. Is this a common thing?

I usually record with the A5 attached to an external power source and battery in. It won't charge while recording so I'm assuming that setup is not a problem with regards to heat. Latest firmware is installed. SD card is Sandisk Extreme Pro 256gb  Record mode is usually looping to max with res 4K60.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have owned all the Osmo Action cameras since they launched and never had any issues. I suspect you have a faulty camera

Firmware: 01.03.03.50
Temp: 20c
Usage: Mounted on motorbike
Wind: none apart from wind flow on the motorbike - 0 to 120kph
External power connected
Connected devices: DJI mic 2 (note it has also happened with no connected devices)
Parameters: 4:3 4K60,
Stabilization: rocksteady

Yesterday it refused to startup until the battery was removed and replaced. This has also happened before. It was working and turned off correctly before this happened.
Note that it doesn't always happen but it occurs often enough to be comparable with my GoPro hero.

Thank you for your response. Please conduct a recording test based on the below parameter combination to confirm the duration.

1. Environment temperature: 25℃
2. Steady mode: RS
3. Screen off when recording: 3s
4. FOV: Standard(Dewarp)
5. Frame ratios: 16:9
6. Please don't connect the DJI Mimo App.
7. Please record 1080P60FPS, 4K60FPS, and 4K120FPS respectively and tell us the duration. (You can test all of them if you have enough time, but you can choose one to record if you don't have time)

I have recorded in scenarios similar to yours without any issue, the only difference I can note is that I never use looping.

I had the same problem yesterday...the camera just stop recording whitout me pressing the stop...they are really destroying this camera with every update...instead of fixing the image quality...wich looks like cartoon network...

Blimey! It’s almost mimicking GoPro a few years back. I really hope not.

My Action 5 is packed away, but I was hopeful for a fix so I can return.

I've had the camera turn off on its own a few times, without my input. I noticed that I had “voice control” turned on at those times. After I turned off the voice command option, everything started working normally and the camera never turned off again. Check it out for yourself.

They raised the megapixels like GoPro did.  Which is causing GoPro like problems.  DJI forgot it was a video camera.

i have the latest firmware update...this camera is a mess... just ruin my entire work of one day, i use dlog M and the footage exposure is going crazy...i cannot use it... and alot of customers have this issue... i am done with this... i am waiting for 5 months to fix it and nothing happen... i will sell it and never come back to dji products...

I've done numerous tests using your suggested parameters and conclude that the results are variable.

1080P60FPS  stops after 13hr. (I did more tests where it stopped sooner but didn't note the time).
4K60FPS         stops after 60 min, stops after 14hr.
4K120FPS       stops after 20min, 33 min, 25 min,  80 min.

Once I had to remove the battery to get it to start up.

The record mode was loop/full but sometimes the recording will stop with full storage rather than overwrite older files.

The recording also stopped sometimes due to overheating which is fair enough.

In summary it behaves a lot like my GoPro cameras and I'm not sure if the camera has a fault or this is common behaviour.
